Grassi Lakes

We all head up to Grassi Lakes above Canmore for some single pitch cragging. This allowed us to get to know each other and assess skill levels for climbs in the days to come. We parked in the lower lot for the longer approach, which meanders gradually upwards among many pretty waterfalls and ponds, ending at the Golf Course wall which is the easiest cliff in the area. What a unique chunk of rock! Massive pockets and bucket like holds made for a gum like climbing feel and even the steep climbs are at a moderate level. Everyone lead a few routes over the course of the day on this wall. Jyoti had never multi-pitch climbed before so I went up with her and we simulated some multi-pitch techniques by belaying from the top and rapelling off.

As the day progressed many of us transitioned over to the Garden Wall which was mercifully shaded from the beating sun. Here the routes were harder, but still within our abilities. Some of for leading, others for following, and a few for simply cheering the others on.
