Monday, September 19, 2011 - Bedford to Grand Pre - 93 km
Had breakfast at Dave and Patricia's, and then we hit the road on a cool gray day. This time we knew about a bike path
route around the mess of highways converging on Bedford so we avoided any accidental freeway riding. Rode along Old
Sackville Road until the end which was quiet and then switched to Hwy 1 which was also quiet. The weather pretty much
stayed constant through the day, although there was always an enticing spot of blue sky on the horizon in front of us
which we never could seem to reach. We stopped for a break at a museum/tea house which advertised various pies that
whetted our hunger. Unfortunately it was closed on Mondays, so we just had granola bars on the picnic tables outside
instead. Later we were looking for a nice spot to have lunch. We spied a lighthouse on the shores of the Avon River
and followed a dirt road towards it, but the road ended with lots of private property postings, so we went back.
Shortly after we found a church and had lunch on the steps. Continued on to Grand Pre, where we saw ads for a
campground on the shores of the Minas Basin. We decided to stay here, even though it is a very over priced trailer
park. Took a walk along the beach as the tide was coming in. The walk back had substantially less beach than the walk
out. After supper, we went down to the water again, and the beach was gone.
Goodbye to Bedford.
No pies today.
Camping in a trashy trailler park. That picnic table is actually on the site next door.
Big beach.
Interesting cliffs adorned the shores.
Those are our footprints, covered in water an hour later.
Less beach now.
And still less.
Rise up tide. Rise up I command!
Who is this goofy person...
Not much beach left.
Brilliant sunset as the waters recede once again.
