Friday, September 16, 2011 - Bedford - 94 km

Had a lazy morning with John and Janet and a big breakfast of fresh fruit, cereal, and warm muffins. Today was the first day of not-so-good weather. We started off in a cool drizzle. We finally got out of Truro and the traffic eased up. Suddenly we smelled the delicious smell of fresh bread. Realizing we had just passed a bakery, did a U turn and stopped for some sweets, buns, and a loaf of bread. The rain tapered off as the morning wore on and the sun finally came out around 11:00. Today was a very slow day. I spent a lot of time waiting on the side of the road for Katharina to catch up. I even started reading my book at one point to pass the time. We had lunch in a very run down park beside a noisy intersection and then continued into the now beautiful day. After many hours we reached the Halifax municiple district but still had a way to go. We took a break on a nice lake where soemone had built an artificial beach resort type think with sand and beach chairs. Just needed a few palm trees and we could be in the Carribean. We decided to take a side road into Bedford which was nice with lots of hills and curves. This was fun to ride, but meant I spent a lot of waiting. We reached Sackville and turne onto the road to take us to the Bedford Highway, but it turned into a freeway. Since we were already on it, and there was no way to turn back at this point, we continued. Despite a lot of cursing by my German partner we finally bushwacked off the freeway into someone's back yard and found a quieter route into downtown Bedford. Since we had been travelling so long we hit the rush hour traffic which was unpleasant, but we finally reached Dave and Patricia's house where we will be staying the next couple of nights.

After some excellent hospitality, Janet and John say goodbye.

A tidal river which feeds and drains into the Bay of Fundy.

We passed a lot of towns making this claim.
