Thursday, September 15, 2011 - Truro - 116 km

Awoke at 05:30 and both of us got up and did the morning routine. It went quickly with the two of us packing up and we got on the road at 07:00. Wa a grey day, but it cleared later. All the way to Port Howe there was no traffic. We got onto Hwy 6 and followed it for a bit. There was also very little traffic so we decided to continue on the highway all the way to Tatamagouche, rather than taking any of the several other options. We stopped at a little bakery and pigged out on strudel and chocolate chip squares. In Tatamagouche we stopped at a chip truck and had lunch of fries and grilled paninis. We then went into the cafe next door and had some yummy blueberry pie. We stopped also at a tourist info park for a break where a very stinky skunk sprayed dog hung out with us begging for food. After turning south at Tatamagouche we hit the wind. The next 50 km was a long slog and Katharina was really tired. It was an effort of patience on my part, as I rode 5 km or so, then sat down and waited for a while, sometimes lightly snoozing until she showed up. We climbed for a couple hours into the hills, observing the windmills turning in the gusts. Finally we summitted to a gorgeous view, and then it was downhill most of the way to Truro. As we got into town, traffic got heavier and a few drops of rain threatened, but never manifested more than that. Picked up some strawberries at a roadside stand just before arriving at John and Janet's place. After cleaning up, we had a wonderful home cooked meal.

Cows and a saltwater marsh.

Salt factory.

Some kind soul put this outside their house.

We took a break, and signed the guest book at the Bicycle Rest Stop.

Katja getting annoyed at the climb and the wind.

Windmills at the summit.
