July 3, 2012 - Rest Day on David Lake

Slept in, had a lazy breakfast of fresh blueberry pancakes and relaxed. Had to hide in the tent from rain for a couple of hours in the morning but then it cleared up. Hiked up to the ridgeline in the afternoon to collect more blueberries. While cooking supper, two young women came out of the woods somewhat disoriented to where they were. After some study of our map, and piecing together their story, they had left their canoe at a portage and then hiked Silver Peak. We figured out which portage it likely was and sent them off hiking along the shoreline to reach the carry about a kilometer west of here with instructions to come back if that did not work out. Half an hour later they paddled by so I guess they found their canoe. Cooked a "Baked Lasagna" backpacker meal as well as a mediterranean pasta. Both were incredibly complicated (more than the usual just add water and stir), so I think we will steer clear of these ones in future. At least they were tasty. If I am going to spend six bucks on a prepared meal in the back country, it better be simple to cook, otherwise it is just as easy to make pasta and sauce from scratch. Spent the rest of the evening relaxing by the lake, writing, and reading.

Fresh blueberry pancackes.

Baking lasagna in the fire.

Sunset.

Moonrise.
