Seat Area Frame Chop

The purpose of the mod was to lower the fender about 2-3" and move the seat back and lower.  I smoothed the welds by grinding them a little and filling.  The 'mess' at the front of the neck was filled in and smoothed.  Both AIS support and the horn supports were also ground off.

The seat post was cut at the base, even with the cross member, angled back and re-welded.  I needed to also cut the cross member partially where it angles up in order to be able to angle it back.  I welded a right angle underneath the cross member to strengthen this part.  I made the seat post narrower by cutting some off the front side otherwise the seat does not move back as much.  I wanted to be able use the stock seat so the stock locking mechanism limited where the seat would go.  A battery that is lower than stock would have allowed me to move the locking mechanism back further.  Currently the mechanism touches the battery and it must removed to remove the battery.  The locking cable is stretched to the limit but operates normally.

In its new position, the stock seat sites in the same orientation as stock.  This is how much the seat has move back; it pushes the stock seat back 2.5 inches and lowers it by 1".  I'm making a custom seat which should push the seating area even further back and down.   I probably would not do this mod for the little amount that is gained for the stock seat.  Below is what the area looks like when Barons' 3.5" tank extension is added on.
