Jamil has written popular magazine articles and delivered technology based courses to disseminate his experiences with new technologies. These range from post graduate classes at the Centre for Alternative Technology for the University of East London on Stirling heat engines, to hands-on instruction in topics like biodiesel, Wirtz pumps, and greenhouse construction, in places including Calgary, Tajikistan and Mali.

He used to live in Ottawa, Ontario where he worked for the Boxfish Group, a sustainable innovations incubator. He is a member of the Energy Institute and sits on the board of directors of the Toxics Watch Society of Alberta (TWS).
