August 7, 2001 Hi, Reading your input on Goulburn County, I'm having difficulty obtaining info on my Great Grandmother Margaret FARMER who came from County Tipperary in the 1840's , and would have settled in Goulburn Co. She was married in 1852 to Patrick Casey who is also from Ireland, County Roscommon. I see that you mention a John Neil and his wife. I'm sure that they were the witnesses at Patrick & Margaret's wedding. I was wondering if you ever came across those two names, in your research. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Phil
August 10, 2001: Phil: Thanks for your e-mail I've come across your Patrick Casey a few times. This is one of the large Irish families in the Ottawa area for which there is (so far) not much information on my web site. In 1823, a Margaret Casey age 18, came to this area with the Peter Robinson settlers. Not long after, there appears a Casey family in the records of St. Michaels at Corkery. So Margaret may have been joined in Canada by relatives from Ireland. There are also Casey's in the records of St. Patrick's at Fallowfield (Nepean Township) and St. Phillips in Richmond (Goulbourn Township). As for Margaret FARMER - there was a pioneer family named FARMER just east of Ottawa, near Carlsbad Springs or Ramsayville. A Nancy Farmer married into the Gillissie family in Osgoode Township. The Gillissie family had three houses on their property in the 1860's. One of the houses was occupied by a family named Farmer. If you e-mail the Osgoode Township Historical Society they should be able to look up the names of family members in the 1861 census for you. On this web site, see the Gillissie Family. Hi Al Thanks for your reply. On Casey-McKenna road, I dont believe it's the same Casey's. The Margaret Farmer I'm Looking for, came from Tipperary in the 1840's ? and lived and worked in Goulburn Twp, as a Servant for a Family by the name of COX. ( census ,reel # C-11716,p.5) As mentioned previously, she married Patrick in 1852 in Ottawa. They remained in Ontario until 1860, when they purchased a farm in Perkins Mills,Que. March 18, 2003: Hi Phil, I’m trying to find out where my gggrandfather Patrick Farmer is from in Ireland. He married Jean or Jane Orr who was from Renfrew Scotland 1897 and they had Hugh + Maria Fullum (my g grandfather) Margaret +William Moore Thomas + M Callighan (also sp. Callaghan) Henry farmer and Ann Jane Farmer. Patrick is shown on the 1881 census (chateuguay quebec area) as being 65 at that time which would put his birth date around 1816. Any thoughts?
