WELCOME TO SHARON'S SANCTUARY
Hi! I grew up in a small town called Deep River, which is situated along the Ottawa River, in Ontario.
EDUCATION:
After completing grade 13, I attended The University of Guelph, in Guelph, Ontario, and graduated 4 years later, with a B.Sc. Degree in Zoology. At which time I drove across Canada to Kamloops, BC, to attend the University College of the Cariboo. Here I was taking a 2 year course in Animal Health Technology.
EMPLOYMENT
While in Guelph, I spent one summer season working at the African Lion Safari. At this point I had always dreamt of working in a zoo. This gave me experience in the feeding, cleaning, and care of wild animals, including baboons, deer, rhinos, giraffes, lions and tigers. Following my education, I moved on to Calgary, Alberta, where I was working for the DogHouse PetFood Mart, along with volunteering for the Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society, and for The Calgary Humane Society. In order to advance career-wise, I decided to move once more, this time back to Ontario, where I took up residence in Ottawa. I obtained a position at the Westboro Animal Hospital, where I worked for 5 years. I also became a member of the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians, I passed their exam, and am now a Registered Veterinary Technician. I am currently working as an emergency technician at the Alta Vista Animal Hospital. I have ended my dream of being a zookeeper and believe in animal rights. I do not agree with keeping animals in captivity.
My interests consist primarily of animal care, but I also enjoy cycling, swimming, skating, and skiing (both downhill and cross country). I also enjoy travelling, and my goal is to see as much of the world as I can.
