Yes; we grew up with a Loyalist story." The family settled in New
> York State....one was caught as a spy and spent the revolution in jail
> in Boston....settled on the Washademoak"
This was Charles Vincent ,1735-d. abt 1788,husband of Hannah Burling (widow Craig) I'm sure he was imprisoned in New Hampshire, but where- oh- where is the refernce to that? I think it was from the Minutes of the Committee and First Commission for Detecting Conspiracies. but I'll have to have a search. As I said before I'm unable to get to my bookcase with all my son's stuff piled in front of it.
Quoting my father
" The Coles Island Church may be right on the new highway;graveyard in back ,down over the hill. Should be Vincents there.. my grandfather's grandfather on his mothers side was a Dr Secord"
Yes, that is an accurate description of the graveyard, except now it isn't the "new" highway. It's on the left of the graveyard if you are standing facing the church. John H is buried therealong with a number of other Vincents

SAINT JOHN GLOBE Wed Oct 29 1902 " The body of Mr. John H. Vincent, late of the North End was removed to Coles Island, Queens County Tues. and buried there today. Deceased was a man greatly respected for his good citizenship and integrity." ( Reel #7 Saint John Globe July 26 1902 - Dec 16 1902)
His burial was at the Baptist Church Cemetery in Coles Island. His stone is in the old section of the cemetery and is among other Vincent stones
There are also Secords in the cemetery
I've long believed that James and Abigail were John's parents, but I've not been able to prove it The 1851 Census of Queens Co is missing and that is the only one that would have shown John at home with his parents.
Yes, I agree that there is a Secord connection. But there is the problem of proving the parentage of John H.It would be nice to prove the Loyalist connections to both Vincent and Secord.
The picture I have of Susan shows her sitting in a chair and holding something (perhaps a book). Without having it in hand, I can't remember the details.
That's all for tonight.
