1,000 McGilvray / McGillivray Families

I've been collecting pre-1880 data on all McG families for
over 20 years. I've then attempted to link each family into their
ancestral group. However, I've found that the more data I collect,
the more families I seem to end up with. Still, my objective is to
trace every emigrant family back to Scotland, and every Scottish
family back to at least the 1700's. Some of these McG groups
now contain many pages of data.

My data is FREE! All I ask is a copy of your pre-1880 info and
your address (so relatives who contact me can reach you).

My data is cross-indexed by SPOUSE and by place so if you tell
me that it should be easy for me to find your family. Or, if, for
eg, you have located them on a Scottish census (which doesn't, of
course, list the wife's maiden name) and there are kids listed, I
can usually find the family by checking my Civil Reg'n or OPR
lists for their b.'s and hence their parents.

I'm particularily interested in family stories rather than just
b.m.d.'s. In my books I try to convey a sense of the times during
which our ancestors lived. Even the skeletons in the closets show
they had the same zest for life as we do. If there is one thing that
comes across it is that our ancestors had a much rougher life than
we can even imagine.

If you're interested in getting a 'feel' for the times your family
lived thru you might check the Bibliography page. If your local
library doesn't have the books you might be able to get them on
Inter-library loan. Most large libraries have their catalogues
'on-line' and much of the Mormon's vast library is on film which
can be ordered in. One doesn't have to be a church member to
use their fantastic resources. Without them, the world of
genealogy would still be in the Dark Ages. Be sure to make a
donation to their library when you use it, as it would cost you a
lot more to hire a researcher or to visit Scotland.

If you have a particular time and place that isn't shown in the
Bibliography, give me a call as I've read many more books than
are listed; eg. those dealing with the English Border and Ireland.

Because my family lived in Glasgow and reportedly came from
Mull, I've tended to concentrate on info pertaining to the West
Lowlands and to the Western Isles. But, I do have basic info on
ALL McG's in ALL Scotland. The only aspect I am not interested
in is anything dealing with the 'chieftanship' of the Inverness
branch of the clan. There are enough others playing that game.
