Donna told Michael that John was nowhere to be found. A call came about Victoria's whereabouts.
Jamie examined John. John said he hadn't experienced any sense of light or colours but he had been having headaches. Jamie looked thoughtful. John asked what the odds were on his sight coming back. Jamie hedged. He said there was hope, but 20% was the figure and it's going down. John insisted he would see again. Jamie said hope was good, but they had to face facts. John yelled at him. Jamie told him he could learn to live with it.
Michael said that Victoria had stiffed her hotel. Donna said she couldn't possibly have spent all that money. (She should still be on her $50,000 a year, though. That should be PEANUTS to a woman like Donna. How soon they forget.) Michael wouldn't be surprised. Donna fretted. Michael reassured her. He went to see about a potential strike situation. He suggested they have lunch at Tops. She fell in with it.
Cheryl said she wanted to take Becky camping. Mary and Ada told her how well she was doing with Becky. Scott warned her not to get too attached to Becky.
Mac put Mitch on the daily paper as well as on Brava. He said they'd talk about a raise later. Mitch asked if he and Rachel could discuss his next assignment later. Rachel said she'd be busy. He let her speak now. She said she wanted him to go to Alaska next week to look at the Bolshoi. Felicia included herself, partly to be a pain. Rachel looked disturbed. She asked Mitch to phone Matthew. He went to do it. Rachel avoided looking at Felicia. They discussed the trip. Rachel mentioned having gone to San Francisco with Mitch more than once.
John refused to accept the fact that he could be permanently blind. His cab arrived and he left in a temper, failing to acknowledge Wallingford, in for his monthly blood donation. John affects Jamie something awful.
Scott said that Becky's father would be getting out of jail in about three weeks. Cheryl was distressed. She tried to think of reasons why Becky's father shouldn't have custody. (It could be keeping Vince and Mary together she minds.) She fled. Scott went after her. Mary got a letter from Support. She didn't get the job because of her [in]experience. Ada reassured her. Michael came in and told Mary it was their loss. They sat down to coffee to chat about their children.
Felicia and Rachel argued about whether or not Rachel was jealous. It got rather nasty. Rachel said Mitch was fun. Felicia said what she had with Mitch was more than FUN, they loved each other. Rachel looked grim.
John let himself in. Donna asked him where he'd been. He didn't say and went looking for Clara. Donna asked so he told her he'd seen Jamie and he was doing really well. He told her as soon as he got his sight back he'd get in his car and drive away from there. Then he asked why she was looking at him like that. He was just guessing. She told him she didn't want him to leave. Wally dropped by the visit with John. Donna left for lunch. Wallingford and John had a serious talk about being blind and being short. John was nice but said it wasn't much help.
Felicia and Rachel apologised to each other and were friends again. Rachel admitted she might be a little jealous. Mitch came back. He's going to see Matthew later. Rachel left. Mitch and Felicia were making a run for his room when Jamie caught them and insisted on talking to Felicia about Lisa.
Michael went back to his site. Scott came in, still looking for Cheryl. Cheryl arrived and refused to talk to him, but Scott knew better and made her sit down and listen. He told her she didn't have to give up her relationship with Becky if she went back to her father. He said she didn't have to try so hard to force the love.
Jamie told Felicia he was going to get to the bottom of Lisa's behaviour. She said she'd do anything to help. On his way out he ran into Donna and it became apparent to her that Jamie's optimism was in no way equal to John's description of it. Jamie left as Michael came in and Donna told Michael what John had said.
Wallingford told John all about how he'd done so many things in an effort to become tall and he'd let it blight his life for a long time but then he met a woman who made him feel better because she loved him. Felicia. Wally suggested a similar therapy for him. John said there was a woman but he couldn't have her. Wally advised him to fight for her. (I cried furiously. Damn them.)
Scott and Cheryl actually chatted. Cheryl thanked Scott for knowing better. They're friends.
John thought about all the pep talks he'd had about fighting today. He said to himself he didn't need anybody's help and stumbled over to the phone to call the Braille Institute. Then he hung up without calling and sat there wiggling his knees in agony.
Felicia worried about Lisa. Mitch reassured her. They're looking forward to Alaska.
