Jamie complained to Felicia because Lisa wouldn't let him look in her book. He thought it was one of Felicia's novels. Felicia didn't enlighten him. Chad brooded at the bar. Adam came in and ordered a whisky. Wally was sympathetic about the wedding. Adam said some things weren't meant to be. Chad moved off in disgust, or something. A woman in a tight black dress slunk in and cosied up to a man with the words "Buy a girl a drink?" Adam stared.
John saw Donna come downstairs. She was thrilled.
MJ told Chad she was leaving. He told her he loved her and he'd go with her.
Cass and a priest showed up at Mary's Place. Cass' hands were bandaged. He said there had been an accident. He told Vince and Mary that Kathleen had wanted to come for the wedding so they had left in bad weather and the private plane went down. Cass was thrown clear but Kathleen exploded inside. Mary became hysterical. Cheryl came in with Becky and after the first rapturous greeting became apprehensive.
John has no headaches this time and he can see everything. Donna wanted to call Jamie. Clara appeared in the corner and saw them getting along very well. She came in and was thrilled when she found John could see. He stopped them calling Michael. Donna went to change to go out. She lurked when Clara asked John what he was doing.
Peter told That Old Carrot what was happening with Victoria.
Chad followed MJ into the restaurant and begged her to let him come. Felicia told Wally that Mitch had phoned to tell her about a private plane that had gone down with one survivor. She has a nagging feeling that there's something more.
Cheryl showed Becky the copy of Madeline that Kathleen had given her. The priest said rather uncomforting things about death. They missed MJ. Things got disjointed. Mary told Vince she couldn't bear it. He soothed her. Cass talked to Cheryl about Paris and Kathleen. Vince was unable to track down MJ. Mary suggested calling Adam. Vince didn't want to talk to him. Cass talked about the orange knees. (!!!!!) He didn't want to stay at the McKinnon house. Vince thought of phoning Tops. Cass asked him not to tell Felicia or Wallingford. The priest left.
MJ assured Chad she didn't blame him, she blamed herself. Chad told her again that he knew everything about her and he still loved her. She fled. Wally told Vince MJ had left on a trip. He went to try to cheer Chad up. He looked at him funny about MJ though. Donna came up to tell Felicia about John's sight. That Old Carrot smiled annoyingly.
Mary was distressed to hear MJ was incommunicado. Vince asked where Kathleen was. Cass said there wasn't anything left. Vince asked why he hadn't taken care of Kathleen. Cass said he'd tried. They yelled at each other. Vince was unreasonable. Cass said he'd done his best. He left.
That Old Carrot gave Peter a small camera and hinted hard. Peter was tickled to death. They got up to leave. Donna wiggled her eyebrows at Felicia and said she was afraid John would hang around lusting after her. Then she went home. Cass came up. They fell on his neck. Felicia perceived that something was wrong. Cass broke down. He described the accident. They all cried. Felicia realised this was Mitch's accident. Cass said Kathleen would have liked a wake. They started drinking. A lot.
The McKinnons sat around in silence for a bit. They were all sad. Mary was afraid MJ would hear the bad news on the radio. Vince assured her she wouldn't. He picked up Madeline and said he'd used to read it to Kathleen. "She had the whole thing memorized . . . I couldn't skip a line." He talked about the day Kathleen was born. He was convinced she'd be a boy. He was about twenty and Kathleen was the homeliest newborn baby he'd ever seen. (They've changed her middle name from Theresa to Mary.) Vince began to read Madeline to Becky. She knows it.
John expected his mother to order him to move out. She said she wasn't going to make the same mistake again. He said he didn't know what he was going to do. She told him she wanted him to have what Michael had with Donna. Donna came in. Clara went up to bed. Peter lurked in the hall and eavesdropped. He held his camera nervously. Donna told him she was sure he wanted to get out on his own now that he could see. He grasped her wrist and told her to calm down. Peter snapped a picture. Donna gently pulled away. She told him she'd felt terrible that he'd lost his eyesight saving her and she hoped he'd find himself a woman to make him happy. She went up. Peter hid.
Becky fell asleep. Cheryl left to take her home. Mary gazed at her portrait and told Vince she was so sorry she'd died before. She cried about Kathleen. They locked up and left with sherry.
The wake drank a lot. Wally had to rush off to meet Jeannie. He told Cass Kathleen had been a wonderful dame and he'd loved her. They hugged. Wally left. Cass and Felicia figured he was leaving them alone. They chatted about Krystle Lake and toasted the Tuna. They burst into tears and embraced.
