Kathleen was picked up by Cass. I think he brought flowers.
Jamie told Mac Emily'd been arrested and Peter along with her. The man MJ shot was a man on Carl's payroll.
Carl told Donna they were going on a trip. She said he could kill her before she'd go. He said he'd take Marley instead so she gave in.
Cass smelled vinegar in the kitchen. Kathleen made up a story about pouring vinegar down the drain to make it run better. She also said she hadn't started cooking yet. He expressed surprise. She'd said six sharp. She said she hadn't meant it. He helped her on with her coat.
Mac and Jamie are going to see MJ. The man she shot was a friend of hers working on the case and Jamie's concerned about her. Mac only wants to yell at Peter for keeping secrets. Mac's a jerk.
Carl won't tell her where they're going. He has a helicopter waiting by the stables. They encountered Perry. "Dad. What are you doing?" Donna told him to go. Perry refused. Carl said no one would stop him. Perry said Donna wasn't going with him. He said you either shoot me or you go alone. I love you but I can't let you get away with this. O Absalom my son my son said Carl.
Carter told Tom everything would be fine. She's upset by Quinn's reaction. He's pleasantly surprised by Grant's reaction. He said everything would be fine if they got married.
MJ's shouting at Emily. Emily wants to see Peter. She'll tell MJ anything she wants to know about Carl. Brian came to be her lawyer at Peter's request. Emily says she doesn't need him and she knows what she has to do. Help Peter and the police get Carl Hutchins. IN HER HORRIBLE DRIPPY DAZED CHILDLIKE SIMPLEMINDED VOICE. Emily was taken for fingerprinting and booking. Brian told her not to talk any more.
Mark asked Peter why he was helping Emily. Peter said at first he wanted to get her for shooting Mark but when he found her all he wanted to do was hold her so he did. Mark told him not to ruin his life for Emily. Mark: There's nothing you can do for Emily. Peter: I can love her. Mark: You can -- YOU CAN WHAT? (I am so sick.)
Kathleen talked about Cass' book for a bit. He said he didn't want to talk about business or Dominique or Cecile. She said the dinner and the wine must have cost a fortune and he was probably charging it to Winthrop Publishing as a business dinner. Cass: I just knew that this wouldn't work. Kathleen: What? Cass: romance baloney. I knew that you couldn't tolerate a situation where you didn't have the upper hand. Kathleen: Excuse me, but is your definition of romance where the guy has the upper hand? Cass: For a start. Kathleen: Well that's my definition of baloney. Cass: And that's exactly what you deserve. A baloney sandwich. You have no appetite for romance. You don't even know what you want to do with it, Kathleen. Kathleen: Well I know I certainly don't want to pay for it. Cass: Fine, let's go. Kathleen: Great. You can take me home and then you can pick up little Dominique. Cass: Oh, that's the best idea you've had all night. I'm going to find a waiter, and when I get the cheque, we leave. Kathleen: SUITS ME. Cass: FINE. I think he went off in search of the waiter. Kathleen: STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID. Cass: Now wait a minute. Why do you have to act like this? Kathleen: Because I am so MAD. Cass: At me. Kathleen. No, DUMMY, not at you, at ME. Cass: I don't get it. Kathleen: It's a good thing that you weren't on time tonight, because you would've had the laugh of your life. You would've loved it. Cass: Kathleen. Kathleen: Oh no, just go get the cheque, all right? Cass: Kathleen. I saw you. Kathleen: What? Cass: I lied about the phone call. I hadn't been held up. You insisted that I be there at six o'clock sharp, so I was at your kitchen door at six o'clock sharp. I saw you. That's when I decided to bring you here. Kathleen: You saw me. What did you see? Cass: I saw you sitting on the kitchen floor toweling off the dog talking to him and -- crying. Kathleen: MJ had to leave on an emergency call and she couldn't help me finish the dinner. And it burned, because Prometheus came running in and he'd been all skunked. That is why I wanted to leave so soon. Because the house reeked of skunk. Cass: That's why you had the vinegar? Kathleen: Yeah, well, I should've known that I couldn't've come across as the all-American girl. I should've known I'd blow it. Well, I must've been a sight. Cass: Yeah. I wanted to kiss you. Kathleen: Well why didn't you? Cass: Because you're so proud. Kathleen: I just wanted to show you that I am not a girl just to take BOWLING. Cass: You know why I did that? Kathleen: Because I'm the baloney queen. Cass: No. No, you had me arrested and then put in jail. That was unkind. Kathleen: I just wanted to protect you, Cass. Cass: Yeah, well, once in a while, could you let me take care of you too? Kathleen: Do you still feel like kissing me? Because I'd certainly understand if you don't because of the way I've acted. Cass; You talk too much. SILENCE.
Ben and Marley came to see Tom and Carter. Carter announced that he and Tom are getting married. Tom was silent. Marley said doubtfully it was exciting and wonderful. Tom: Kinda takes your breath away, doesn't it? She sounded unthrilled. I think Carter's being a jerk. Carter and Ben went out to buy soda to celebrate. As soon as they were out the door: Tom: Yeah, I'm pregnant. You were wondering, right? Marley: No, I -- well it is kind of sudden. Tom: 'S okay. I mean why else would we? Marley: Are you sure? Tom: Yeah, I took a blood test. Marley: No, I mean -- I mean are you sure about getting married. Do you love Carter? Tom: Of course I love Carter. I wouldn't've -- I wouldn't be in this situation otherwise.
Mark: Look, I don't blame you for loving the woman but you can't let her sickness distort everything. Mac arrived. He yelled at Peter. Carl's left the country.
MJ's been given time off. She doesn't want it. Jamie tried to be kind but she's touchy. He's taking her home.
Tony interrupted Cass and Kathleen spooning in the restaurant. He says Cass has work to do starting tomorrow morning. Now don't you two make a late night of it. Cass isn't going to worry about it tonight. Tonight he's going to think only of what he wants (not that he ever thinks of anything else, the selfish pig). She likes the way he thinks.
Marley wants to go home. She professes tiredness. Ben took her home. Tom doesn't think Carter's thought about marriage enough. She thinks the pressure will be too great for him. She doesn't want him to hate her for forcing this on him. He assured her he won't.
MJ took fits at Kathleen's mess then suddenly stopped and started crying. I get the feeling she's been enfolded in soothing embrace by Jamie.
Donna told Peter about Carl and Perry. Peter says if he finds Carl he'll kill him.
Marley met Perry at home. He told her his father tried to kill him and Donna today. He said he found out two things today: Carl loved him and he was guilty of all of those terrible things.
Kathleen and Cass sing rather better than Felicia and Wallingford. In harmony no less. Ben interrupted them in the kitchen and inquired after the smell. He remembered himself and said he was going out again. Cass said it was okay, he'd leave, because he knew it'd get awfully cold in the car if he sat in it for a bit. Ben apologized. Kathleen's euphoric.
Mac is going after Carl in his jet. WOT A JERK. Rachel's concerned for him.
Peter DOES concede that Emily is sick and I think perhaps he loves her because she's so pathetic and needs him so. You'll notice everyone else got over him and moved on to greener pastures.
I have just this minute discovered from reading To the Lighthouse that having skin is a virtue. Catlin does have skin, all right. Possibly more than some people, considering the ground it would have to cover. We know for a fact he has skin on his chest. BUT PERHAPS THE HITHERTO UNEXPOSED BITS (viz. his knees) have no virtue. No one's ever seen them so we can't be sure. VIRTUELESS KNEES.
Try to imagine MJ or Kathleen pregnant. The only thing weirder than MJ or Kathleen being pregnant would be MJ AND Kathleen being pregnant AT THE SAME TIME.
DUE TO THE LACK OF PLOT PORTENTS TODAY I AM FORCED TO MAKE THEM UP. Here goes. Emily kills everyone except Carter and Thomasina, who have to take it upon themselves to repopulate the Earth. Unlike Deucalion and Pyrrha, they know naught of Magna Mater's Ossa and have to do it the hard way.
