Felicia is cutting boards for Zane's boat. She's doing pretty good but not great. He removed her protective eye-guard and began to kiss her. Enter Cass. "There you are, I've been looking all over for you. We're in trouble." "When Cass says we're in trouble he usually means he's in trouble. Right, Cass?" Cass grinned sheepishly. He's lovely.
Sally (now played by Taylor Miller; the Voice called her Sally Ewing) and Kevin are back. Kevin has been shedding souvenirs since they left Alice's. A Lincoln Memorial here, a Washington Monument there. And where is Catlin? Liz suspects Brittany.
Larry needs a gun. Someone kicked the door in. Turns out to be MJ. She's mad at both of them. Larry's cheery and Catlin's mildly indignant (he's darlingly funny that way). She's furious because Larry ditched her and took on Catlin. She thinks it's because she's a woman. Catlin said Larry hadn't wanted him either. It turns out she followed Catlin. Not hard. Larry doesn't want MJ to take the risk. MJ told him not to be pig-headed. He said he'd get inside alone. She said she was helping like it or no. Catlin interjected that he thought HE should be calling the shots as present owner of the drugs.
Cass told Felicia about Dee. He asked her help. He doesn't want to hurt Dee. Felicia agreed to help. He said Dee was on her way over. "OH YOU LITTLE CREEP. You do this every time." "What?" "You get a new job and then you make everyone's life miserable." "It's not true. I have just finagled a very exclusive interview for Kathleen with Michaud." "OH." "WELL."
Kathleen is interviewing Michaud (in Cass' office because there was a mix-up and someone else claiming an appointment is being soothed in his). She wants to know about him. He said to know about him one need only look at Lesoleil. She asked what about Lesoleil (and I said he was BEAUTIFUL, that was it). He said he had a proposition to make her.
Liz and Kevin and Sally at Smiley's. Maisie took Kevin to help with the ice cream. No one has seen Catlin. His bed has been slept in but he didn't answer the phone when Sally called last night. Sally's worrying. Enter Brittany looking for Catlin.
"Proposition?" "Suggestion?" "Suggest away." "I want you to be first." "First what?" He wants her to be Lesoleiled. She's hesitant. She looks wildly nervous. He says it will help the article and bring out the best Kathleen McKinnon. She's not sure she wants to change. He produced several arguments for it. She has to think about it.
Sally asked Britt if she'd seen Catlin in her absence. Britt: As a matter of fact I have. Up at the cabin. Liz: what were you doing there? Britt: I had some papers for Catlin to sign. The divorce is going through, remember? Liz: I'm glad you've finally seen the light. Britt: You know I don't see it that way. I never tried to force Catlin to do anything, We made this decision together. Liz: It seems to me it would be a lot better for everyone if you just went back to Oregon. Britt: Well I LIKE it here, Mrs Matthews. Liz: I thought you liked Oregon. Britt: Well I do, but I want to be here right now because I've got some things to do and I'm going to do them. Liz: I don't know what you're up to but don't entertain any ideas about Catlin. Britt told Sally to tell Catlin she was looking for him and left. Sally wonders what she wants with him. Liz thinks she's up to no good. She thinks Catlin could explain it to them.
Catlin said he'd chuck the drugs into the bay if Larry didn't let them help. Larry's bitter. MJ thinks he's obsessed with the case and likely to foul up. Catlin told him he could go to the Plains Motel alone with some of the drugs and them as backup. Larry was forced to give in. He said he wanted the stuff tonight and he'd make his move tomorrow morning first thing. Catlin went to get it. He's glad to get it out of the cabin. MJ told Larry about Cannon her new partner.
Cannon on the phone with Tommy Lee. Tommy Lee suspects Carter and he wouldn't mind icing MJ (she's being difficult over the permits). Cannon will look after her. He says the PD knows nothing about Larry. Tommy Lee wonders what happened to Larry. Jimmy thinks he's part of a very good rival organization (Ha. Him, MJ and Catlin. Great). Tommy Lee ordered more men put on the street to look into it. They have to do anything possible to retrieve the drugs.
Kathleen told Cass about Michaud wanting her for the first American transformation. Cass was thrilled until she expressed her doubts. She drifted away and he murmured "Who'd want to change a hair?" Michaud came to claim Cass. Enter Daniel. Cass looked at him weird before he left. Kathleen told Daniel about the offer. He thinks it's a great idea. He called her "Irish." ("Why did you call me Irish?" "It's a term of affection. Did it offend you?" "No, no , no, I like it, it's nice.") She invited him to lunch to help her decide. He's busy but he'd love to. They left.
Zane has to go back to Oregon to close up his house. It'll take about a week. She'll miss him. She asked if Britt were going. He said she had her own life in Bay City now. She told him to hurry back. He kissed her. The inevitable entrance of Dee interrupting. "Felicia, man are you hard to track down." Zane dispersed. Dee told her Tom was scared and she was a little too. She told her about quitting the suspicious Plains Motel and Cass was going to help her become Lesoleil Woman. Felicia was gently pessimistic. Dee was not to be depressed. She raved about meeting Michaud and knocking his socks off. Enter Michaud.
Catlin returned to the cabin delighted by evidence of the return of the wife and son. He found Kevin on the living room floor with the plastic bags of drugs all about him. Sally was nowhere in sight. Kevin asked what it was. Catlin said they had to hide it from Sally. Kevin asked again what it was. Catlin asked him what he thought it was. Kevin guessed sugar. Catlin said that was right and he'd been planning to bake them a surprise cake so we won't tell Sally. They got the stuff into the paper bag. Enter Sally. Sally: Catlin, where have you been? Catlin: I'm not going to answer that until I get a hug and a kiss. Kissing. Sally: Oh, I've missed THAT. Catlin: Me too. Kissing. Sally: You know how WORRIED I've been about you? Catlin: Why? Sally: WHY? Because I hadn't heard from you in days. Catlin: Well that doesn't mean you weren't on my mind, believe me. Kissing. Sally: I believe you. Well why did you tell everybody you were going to Washington and never even leave Bay City? Catlin: I did leave Bay City. I was going to surprise you and Kevin but I got about fifty miles out on the interstate and -- the engine died. Sally: Oh, no. Catlin: Yeah, I had to have to whole thing rebuilt. Kevin: What a drag. Catlin: Yeah, it sure was, Kev. Sally: Well how long did it take you to get it fixed? Catlin: About two days and all the money I had to get to Washington. Sally: And here I thought you were having a wild time in Bay City without me. Catlin: Oh, I'm just glad the two of you are back. Kissing. Sally: How 'bout I fix you a nice lunch and then we can tell you all about our trip. Catlin: Oh, how 'bout in a little while. You see I have one quick errand that I have to do. Sally: Well can't that wait? Catlin: Um it won't take long. You see I didn't expect you to get home so soon and I'm right in the middle of doing a little work. Sally: Work? Well I thought you were on vacation. Catlin: I am. I just promised one of the hospital security guards that I'd give him a hand. He's putting in a patio. Sally: You know what your problem is? You're too NICE. Catlin: It's no big deal. He's out of cement and I have a couple of extra bags. Sally: well hurry back. Catlin: Okay. You got it. Sally: And one last kiss. Kissing. You know what else? Catlin: What? Sally: Kevin's going to go over to Joey's tonight and spend the night. Kevin: I can't wait. He's my best friend and I'm his. Sally: That's right. In fact I could even take you over there right now. Kevin: You could? Sally: Sure. I'll come back here. Wait for you. How does that sound? Catlin: That would be terrific. Sally went to make Kevin's lunch. Catlin reminded Kevin not to tell Sally about the stuff and taking the bag inched out the door backwards.
Felicia introduced Dee to Michaud. Michaud was wildly charming and complimentary about her American beauty. But when it turned out she was nineteen he regretfully told her the Lesoleil Woman had to be twenty-one. She was disappointed but they consoled her. Exit Dee.
Brittany went to the Plains Motel. They think she's deaf and dumb there. She asked for work. They said no. She looked pleadingly and sweetly up at Tommy Lee. He told them to get rid of her but then he had second thoughts deciding she'd come in useful for odd jobs not being able to overhear anything. He told Jimmy not to play her too much because that was how the Todd punk got suspicious. He called Britt over and was real friendly with his arm about her.
Catlin told Larry and MJ that Kevin had found the stuff and spread it all over the place. Larry said if Sally and Kevin were back he shouldn't go getting mixed up in this. Catlin said he was in this like it or not. MJ went to the precinct. Catlin gave Larry the bag and told him to hurry up and get back to Clarice. Larry asked him to tell Clarice he was thinking about her if anything should happen. He said he was doing this for her own protection. Catlin thought there might be more to it than that.
Michaud told Felicia he and Cass had planned Operation Easy Let Down. She conceded Cass was nice and agreed to thank him. He asked about Zane. She's not sure if it's serious but she likes him.
Daniel and Kathleen returned from lunch. She's decided to go through with the Lesoleil process. He asked her to the ballet Friday. She accepted. He rushed off busy busy busy. She told Cass about her decision to go ahead and he pretty much told her she was perfect and had no reason to change. (He asked her to lunch too but she'd just eaten of course.) She thought he was trying to be scum and said he was too late.
Enter Catlin bearing something resembling a cake box. It looks like Sally is wearing only a plaid shirt. Sally: What's that? Catlin: It's a surprise. Sally: It better not be something fattening. Catlin: I said it was a surprise. Sally: Mm. Kissing. I've got a surprise for you too. Catlin: Oh yeah? What? Sally: I'm not going to tell you unless you tell me. (She's been off chatting nonstop at Alice's sickbed for three weeks, Sarah said darkly, she's pregnant I'll bet. Of course if you ask me it's strange. Switching Sallys like this. Vaguely indecent.) Is it a lemon meringue pie? Catlin: Hey, forget it. Sally: Okay. Catlin: Hey, this place looks nice. Sally: Thanks. Sit. (They sat in front of the short couch.) Mm. Kissing. Oh, it's so good to be back. Catlin: You don't know how much I missed you. Sally: Brittany bother you while I was away? Catlin: No. Sally: You sure? Catlin: Yop. Brittany's changed a lot. She granted me the divorce and everything. Sally: I ran into her today. She was acting kind of strange and said she needed to see you. Catlin: Oh, it's probably about the divorce stuff. Sally: Well after everything that's happened you can't expect me to trust her completely. Catlin: I think I understand that. Sally: Well I got you. Kissing. Catlin: I wish we could stay like this. Sally: LET'S. Catlin: Just stay in this cabin forever and never leave. Sally: Doesn't that sound ROMANTIC? Catlin: I love you. No matter what happens always remember that? Sally: Is something wrong, Catlin? Catlin: No. Everything's fine. Kissing. They went horizontal.
Larry went to the Plains Motel with something for Tommy Lee. He's not supposed to until Morgen. Bad man.
Kathleen told MJ about Lesoleil and the wonderfulness of Daniel. MJ was abstracted and asked if she were over Cass. Kathleen said she was (too loudly) and then she didn't know.
Sally: Apple. Catlin: No. (They have fewer clothes than previously. I suspect them of stashing convenient sheets about the house JUST IN CASE. If worse came to worst they could use anything large -- the shower curtain, whatever.) Sally: Well I know it's not chocolate layer because I -- it's cheesecake. Catlin: (laughing) It's not. It's a surprise for Kevin. Now will you just be patient? Sally: Who even cares about the cake? Kissing. You know what I want to do tonight? Kissing. Catlin: What? Sally: Just this. I want to lie around here just like this tonight. Do we have to go anywhere? Catlin: I don't. Sally: Then I get you all night. You know (here she went a little way away to resume her plaid shirt; prior to this she seemed to be mostly face down on his chest with him smoothing her hair around her ear) I hope we never separate like Larry and Clarice. That would be terrible, wouldn't it? Catlin: We won't. Sally: Catlin, you promise if we ever have a problem like that we'll talk about it? Catlin: You got it. I love you. No matter what. Kissing. Sally: I love you. But I'm hungry. And since I can't have any cake I'm going to get some strawberries. Catlin: well of course with whipped cream. Kissing. You LOVE whipped cream. Catlin laughed and said something sounding like I MARRIED whipped cream. She went to the kitchen and he answered the phone. 'Twas MJ worried about Larry. Catlin reassured her saying Larry wouldn't be stupid enough to go to the Plains Motel ahead of schedule. Sally returned and fed him whipped cream. Rather a fair bit of kissing.
Larry was surprised to see Brittany.
