Cass awakened with his arms about Prometheus. Kathleen came in and laughed hysterically at the spectacle. She threw herself across Cass to greet Prometheus.
Larry's in the kitchen with MJ. Saying what he's found out makes him think Catlin was right about Willa. Discussing Catlin's maniacal (sorry, I mean coplike) instincts. Nobody thinks Willa was a druggie. MURDER?
Sally and Catlin are breakfasting at Smiley's. Still determined to get married. Unwavering in their resolve, like. There's no one else there so they got up to dance. (It's not Majorca, but --" "It's better.") Rather a lot of kissing mixed in, natch. Maisie came out of the back and looked not quite stricken or forlorn just somewhat sad. Marley blew in without seeing them and breathlessly apologized for being late. The good-hearted Maisie (always good-hearted, our Maisie. Not to mention predatory) was deeply forgiving. She indicated Catlin & Sally.
Peter: Catlin Ewing has lied to Sally before. Donna: And that's the only reason that you're trying to make trouble for him? Peter: I don't know what you're talking about. I have to go to work. Donna: I'm referring to a certain piece of paper on your desk that says Catlin Ewing/Josh Peterson. You're determined to break them up, aren't you, Peter? Peter: What were you doing going through my desk? Donna: No I wasn't. I just happened to see that piece of paper. Peter: What, you just happened to lift up my blotter and look underneath? Because that is exactly where it was. Donna: Why were you hiding it? Peter: You are treading on awfully thin ice here, Donna. Just when were you going through my stuff, yesterday? Donna: I have every right to be concerned. Peter: No you don't. It is none of your business. Donna: YOU are my business. Peter, I don't want to see you get hurt again. Peter: I told you before that is not your responsibility. Donna: You also told me you'd put the past behind you. Clearly that's not true. You LOVED Sally once. Peter: I am concerned, yes. Donna: And that's not meddling? Where my concern for you is? Peter: Stay out of this, Donna. Donna: Peter, what if Sally finds out? She'll never forgive you. Peter: Donna. I forgave you for what you did to the both of us, remember? Donna: I don't want you to make the same mistake that I did. Peter: I SEE. Still full of good intentions, huh, Donna? But it's really the same old thing. You're bored, you're depressed, out of sorts with yourself, so you're going to see what's happening in Peter's life and meddle around in there for a while. Donna: Peter, you're twisting this around. Peter: I WON'T HAVE IT, D'YOU UNDERSTAND ME? Donna: I'm getting a headache. Peter: Donna. You and I were doing quite well. Donna: Peter -- Peter: You know I am really quite willing to forgive this lapse of yours. But I will never -- repeat, never -- allow you to control my life again. Donna: Peter, I WORRY about you. Peter: Then you're just going to have to find yourself another little diversion. He told her to get out and mingle. She wants to get the money back from Carl. LEGALLY. She asked for Peter's help. Peter: I don't have TIME to waste chasing what we've already lost. Donna: But you have time to chase around in Catlin's past. Peter: I didn't hear that. I'll see you later, Donna. Now you think about what I said. Donna: Peter -- do you really think there's something in Catlin's past that could hurt their marriage? Peter: I don't know. But I'm going to find out.
Jake came downstairs at Smiley's and he and Marley and Maisie stood about watching Catlin and Sally (who are pretty much oblivious to the Crowd.) Jake: In the A.M. yet. Marley: I think it's darling. Jake: Want to take a turn around the floor? Marley: I have to WORK. She got him breakfast. Catlin and Sally recalled themselves and paid Maisie before dashing off to their respective places of work. Sally's going to meet him at the hospital for lunch. ("Only I don't know if they allow dancing in the hallways." "Maybe in the elevators." "Oh, that's okay." "Or in the security office." "No, not in the security office." "YEAH.") Marley: There you go. Jake: Thank you. So, how've you been? Marley: Busy. Jake: Breaking in your orthopaedic shoes? Marley: They help. Jake: You are really something, you know that? Marley: No. Jake: I mean it. I'd like a video of you. A Day In The Life of -- Marley: Who'd be interested? Jake: Are you kidding? We could start in tight on those shoes and pan up. People would be expecting an old lady and then -- BINGO! Beautiful Marley Love. Waitress by day, and -- Marley: Stop it. Jake: we get you bringing doughnuts and slinging hash. Marley: I don't sling hash, I bring it. Jake: Whatever. He continued on in this vein until: and then we follow you to your lonely tower room, where you take off your orthopaedic shoes -- Marley: Stop it. Stop it right there. Jake: Be kind of abrupt, wouldn't it? Marley: That's enough. She asked if Ben wrote to his family. Jake was strange about California females. Marley said she didn't expect him not to notice other girls. Jake asked if she were above noticing other guys. "YOU," she said, "had better finish your breakfast."
Frenzied ringing of Felicia's doorbell. Wallingford asking for help. He immediately decided he couldn't take advantage of her friendship but she dragged him inside. It seems he was paid $500 to do a job and blew it at the track and now he can't do the job. He was very vague about the job but he wants her to pretend to be his girlfriend and drive a truck. (She's driven on researching a novel.) She agreed to.
Apparently Prometheus is rather a lively bedfellow. Kathleen said things about Cass being warm and toasty (in her peculiar voice employed when speaking to Prometheus). She put Prometheus out. Cass is pleased with his lot. Kathleen says it's not as bad as she expected. And Vince has commented that Cass is not such a bad sort. Kathleen went to get breakfast.
Larry's going to investigate Willa's death on his own time. MJ will help. They left.
Felicia and Wallingford went to Smiley's. Sat at separate tables. Jake left. Wallingford's nervous. Felicia wants to know what the cargo is. Wallingford hasn't told her. Hubie the truck driver arrived. Felicia introduced herself to him. He was so startling that Maisie dropped a cup.
Peter is thrilled by Sally's work, as usual. He asked if everything were okay between her and Catlin. Sally was surprised and said everything was fine. Peter kept probing. Insinuating that Catlin could be holding back the truth from her. She said she was sure he wasn't. Peter said he'd hurt her before by doing that. She said people who love each other hurt each other sometimes. Peter: Sometimes irreparably. She set him straight. "Not if that love is the real thing," quoth she. She told him that both she and Catlin felt that their pasts before they met didn't matter. Peter said he understood her meaning. Sally said he was her friend and her boss but they couldn't work together unless he understood there was to be "no knocking Catlin." (Nicely put.) He apologized and said the last thing he wanted to do was cause her any pain. He took both her hands in his as Aunt Liz barged in. She stood stock still taken aback. They looked at her; Sally looked down and released herself. She left. Liz let Peter know she was All For Catlin marrying Sally. She said a number of bizarre (one might say incoherent) things about Peter losing Emily and being altogether different since returning from abroad and everyone understood about everything. ("And what if their dream was to blow up in Sally's face?" "Oh no, that won't happen. I know it won't." "How do you know that?" "I trust Catlin. I know he loves her too much to let it happen.") Peter told her he understood what she was driving at and if that were all he had an important phone call to make. She left. He dialed.
Larry told Catlin he was going to be looking into the Willa mess and he was to keep his nose out of it. He asked what Willa'd said when they met at the Pig Whistle. Catlin couldn't remember whether she'd been afraid of a man or a woman. Alice hove into view. They pestered her with questions about Rachel (and Jamie. That was MJ). Rachel's as before. Jamie has been found a bed there. Larry and MJ left amidst Catlin's thanks for their investigating.
Donna: All right, Peter said to mix, so I shall mix. Now, what shall I do? Go to a dreary committee meeting or check by the hospital? Maybe I should toss a coin. If I had one. Donna, don't exaggerate. I wonder if one could toss a credit card? A volley of thunderous knocks at the door. Donna called and called and called for the maid to create the illusion that she still had one. It was Jake wanting to photograph in weird light. Donna looked coy and let him. She was sinisterly and adorably girlish. She said she was staying. (To herself: "Certainly better company than a committee.")
Hubie called Felicia a refined babe and let it be known that he found her attractive. He gave her the keys but wouldn't tell her what the cargo was. He left. Wallingford dashed up and took the keys from her and fled saying he'd be back at her place in an hour.
Joyce and Alice are perplexed because someone's been stealing drug cards of patients who've checked out so no one's dosage while there is affected but the inventory is really screwed up so they can't tell if someone's stealing drugs. Catlin was on hand, natch, and dutifully took down all necessary information. (Highly interested at the mention of drugs.)
Aunt Liz came to talk to Sally about Peter. Sally doesn't believe Peter wants to break them up and all this concern is getting on her nerves. She's determined to marry Catlin.
Donna was gracious to Jake and in fact giggled girlishly and chatted. He filmed her with the last of his tape. He'll come back. He left ever-grateful.
Cass came to pick up Kathleen. He was annoyed to find her in Peter's office. They kissed rather a good deal. The inevitable Peter walked in. They left as Peter instructed Cass to return her quickly for work. Cass put his head in the door "Pete, you really should lighten up because -- you're acting like a jerk." (Bravo.) Kathleen pulled him along. Peter scowled and picked up the phone. The female came in at the other end and completely ignored the ringing phone. (Deef & dumb.)
Jake didn't tell Marley where he'd been.
Felicia wants to know what the cargo is. Wallingford eventually told her it's Caroline going to the zoo to meet a gentleman friend. "I'm driving a truck hauling a gorilla -- IN HEAT?"
Alice and Sally determined that Sally and Catlin get married. Sally's at the hospital to meet Catlin for lunch. Peter gave up calling and made a plane reservation to Oregon. (??) "I'm going to get to the bottom of this . . . for Sally."
