ANOTHER WORLD DAILY SYNOPSIS.

January 14, 1985

Jamie's at the McKinnons' for dinner. He offered to take MJ out but she's expecting a call from Larry so in it is. MJ throws pots on the floor before she cooks for good luck. Jamie's happy to stay in as long as they're alone. Long, expressive silence. There's a dog there called Prometheus. (I LIKE that.) Kathleen walked in and cleared her throat. "Hi MJ. Hi Jamie. Am I interrupting something?")

Carter returned to talk to Thomasina. He told her he loved her and he didn't see what the problem was. She said the problem was she's pregnant. He said they cared for each other and that was all that mattered.

Carl told Emily she had to return to London. She says she's not going. He told her it was for her own good. She says they should meet. He says it's impossible and they shouldn't even be in the same city. She told him she'd decide the time and the place and they'd meet. She hung up and told Peter what Carl said. Emily said that Carl was like a father to her. Peter said Carl was only using her.

MJ and Jamie invited Kathleen to eat with them. Kathleen went to dress and they discussed the interview with Carl and then Kathleen and Cass. Jamie: I'll never figure out what any woman sees in Cass. MJ: Well, he is kind of sexy in his own way, y'know. Jamie: What way? MJ: I don't know. Jamie: WHAT WAY? MJ: I have to stir my sauce. Jamie: I'll stir your sauce for you. MJ: I thought you were hungry. KISSING. Jamie: I am. KISSING. MJ: Well, we can do this, or I can get my dinner together, but we can't do both. Which do you prefer? Enter Kathleen. Kathleen: I'm all for the food. I'm starved.

Carter told Thomasina just because she was pregnant their plans didn't have to go bust. She said he's not listening.

Nancy thought about January 8 with Perry. Ada came in. She advised her not to mope.

Perry is utterly businessman. Concerned about the state of the napkins. Bad mood. Vince and Maisie discussed him. Tom and Carter arrived.

Prometheus is the McKinnon dog. Jamie asked after Cass. They had a good laugh over Krystle. Cass arrived to discuss Sing a Song of Sandals. Kathleen invited him to join them, getting MJ to reinforce the invitation (albeit unenthusiastically).

Nancy thinks of nothing but Perry. Ada advised her not to curl up her toes and die but to go to Smiley's and see her friends but not to pressure Perry. Nancy called Hunt and asked him to take her to Smiley's.

Emily told Peter it was so hard to leave him when Carl told her to. Peter said a number of embarrassing things about them being in love. He's on this big kick about Carl using people. Emily feels so safe. Hold me, Peter. Hold me tighter.

Carter asked Tom if she wanted to leave. She said no. Perry stopped at their table and asked her meaningfully if she were all right. Carter perceived that this meant he knew and looked mad. Nancy arrived with Hunt. Perry is unthrilled and Tom & Carter are at a loss. Hunt asked Nancy why she asked him out. She said she liked him and he was fun because he didn't take life too seriously. Perry left (probably deeply depressed and hurt and confused).

Cass expressed appreciation for MJ's spaghetti. He asked if Kathleen could cook like that. Kathleen said no, which MJ confirmed. The general idea though is that Kathleen is very good at a lot of things. Other things. And no one is more appreciative of those other things than Cass. MJ brought up Cecile. Cass left. Kathleen: Are you happy? (This directed at MJ.)

Peter and Emily are in bed with HIS chest exposed. She's worried he's an accessory but he said in bed they think only about their love and don't worry.

Carter asked Tom why she told Perry. She said it was because it was easier to talk to Perry because she wasn't in love with him.

MJ sent Jamie on an errand. She said she brought up Cecile because she can't stand the way Cass treats Kathleen. To prove she's treated fine Kathleen took the nameplate from her purse to show MJ. She says Cass respects her and they're just friends. She's going to bed.

Perry went to see Carl. In his darkened office. A toast to fathers and sons.

Hunt took Nancy home. She tried to get rid of him. He wanted a drink. She stopped him. He told her to tell Mac he'd been to a couple of the Saturday seminars. Lotta bunk, he said, but don't tell Mac that. She tried to be firm and said she had a good time. He whined, "Why don't you show me you had a good time, Nance? Why don't you show me you had a good time?" He attacked her. Ada came in and he left zipping up his jacket nastily. Nancy told Ada she just ran into Hunt and he insisted on seeing her home. She stomped off to bed.

Peter has to go home. He told Emily not to go out. She's going to stay in bed awaiting his return.

Larry called and told MJ Emily flew to Chicago and is on her way back.
