Adam and MJ had a fight, I guess because she hadn't produced Chad's alibi before he got too excited. Chad overheard said fight while rolling around in the corridor in a wheelchair. Adam was not squelched much. He had Peter in for interrogation. Peggy cruised in and said she and Peter had been driving around together at the time in question. Adam was thrilled, natch. Peter and Peggy agreed that Quinn's note was ridiculous and had no reason for living. Adam seethed. Peter and Peggy drifted out. Adam tore his hair and beat his breast and smote his thighs with the flat of his hand, saying: "I don't believe this. Everywhere I turn there's a suspect who has got some woman alibi-ing for him — and one of em's MY WOMAN." O-KAY.
The Mary's Place gang heard that Chad was going to be released. Cheryl was rather smug.
MJ got permission from Jamie to visit with Chad. She found him weeping and sniffing in that way he has. She asked why, full of concern. He said he didn't want to talk about it. He mentioned the fight he'd overheard. She excused Adam, saying he was tired. He made threatening noises if Adam should hurt her. [Oh.] She told him he was free to go. He wanted to leave that very minute. She restrained him. He asked why he was free. She admitted she'd given him an alibi. He asked why. She thought about his panic and his pleading and his declaration of undying love. She said she knew he hadn't killed anyone. He was impressed that she would lie and go against all of her police stuff for him. Worse than that, she said, on the verge of tears, I betrayed the man I love. She burst into tears and tried to leave. He thanked her and told her she still cared about him. She said she didn't want him in her life. He asked to be allowed to touch her. She told him firmly she never wanted him to touch her again and left.
Peter and Peggy giggled in bed. Suddenly she stopped. Peter: what's wrong? Peggy: I have to ask you something. Peter: go ahead. Peggy: did you? Peter: did I what? Peggy: did you kill Quinn Harding? Peter: no. Peggy: just thought I'd ask. They ducked back under the covers and resumed giggling.
Tony told Mac he had to be allowed to write an editorial immediately. Mac refused to let him. Tony pled. He wants to try to smoke the killer out. Mac pointed out the danger. Tony said there was no time to waste. Mac said he could write it and then he'd decide about printing it. A couple of jerks chatted with Cheryl about her billboard. Scott was not thrilled. The jerks left. Scott asked Cheryl if she still thought Chad had done her a favour.
Dr Glaser told Big Al he was concerned about Adam's mental state, particularly his perception that his fiancée was working against him. [Lina, you've been reading those fan magazines again.] Big Al is concerned only about PR. Dr Glaser said Adam needed time off. Big Al went into the office and told the beloved Sgt he had no choice but to take time off.
Peggy: I shouldn't have asked you if you killed Quinn. Peter: oh, that's all right. You've got a right to know. Although I must admit your TIMING was a little unsettling. Peggy: I'm sorry about that. Peter: that's all right. You more than made-up for it. Peggy: you know, I knew you didn't. Peter: what? Peggy: kill someone. Peter: why? Do you think I'm too weak? Peggy: no. I think you're much, much too smart.
Jamie told Chad he wasn't fit to go home. Chad said he had places to go and people to see. [Good boy.] And something important to do.
Killer music.
Mary told Vince she was proud of Cheryl. Vince asked what Sister Mary-Therèse would say. Mary said nuns could have open minds too. Vince disapproved strenuously. Mary tried to get him to see Cheryl's side. Nancy told Tony she was afraid for him and she wished they could go away together. She's confused, but she knows she loves him. He loves her. Scott told Cheryl he was worried about her because her pictures might upset the killer.
MJ went to Adam's wicked bachelor pad. He opened the door and asked what she was doing there. She said they had to talk. He said she'd already said what she had to say when she said she'd been with Chad. She said she couldn't let him arrest an innocent man. He said he was very busy. She said she was sorry. She became tearful and told him how wonderful and loving and honest he'd been and said she was sorry. She sobbed and said she loved him and she would give anything if she could take back everything that had happened because she hadn't wanted to hurt him. He didn't say anything. She offered him his ring back.
Scott advised Cheryl to be careful. She exploded. He said he was upset seeing all of his friends dying. She behaved like an idiot. She said she could take care of herself. By the time she apologized he was feeling put upon. Killer music.
