ANOTHER WORLD DAILY SYNOPSIS.

September 7, 1987

Felicia and Mitch lingered in bed. She noticed it was late and rushed to change. He went to his strongbox and put a jewellery box in it.

Wally was afraid Cass was behaving oddly. Cass rushed to get dressed, saying "If everything goes according to plan tonight the old Cass Winthrop will make his comeback."

Victoria did not make any accusations because Michael came in. She very meekly tied John's tie for him. Or she tried. John hurt Peter's feelings by accusing him of wearing a clip-on. Clara's dressed up to go with them.

Dawn cried when Chad told her that their mother had died. She never knew her, since Chad kept her in the dark so successfully. Chad comforted her. Scott looked on.

Felicia tried to figure out what surprise Mitch could have for her. She thought of jewellery and began going through his drawers. She found his strongbox. Mitch found her trying to break into it.

Wally provided Dawn with a room key. She thanked Scott for being nice on the plane. He said he'd call her later. She was pleased. Chad led her to the elevator and introduced her to MJ who had come for the party. MJ chatted with Scott. Mac and Rachel arrived. MJ asked if Adam was coming. Rachel was about to warn her that he was bringing a date when Adam and Judy arrived. Vince is with Diane. He got MJ away from the awkward situation. Mary arrived and looked at Diane. She comes as a shock.

Mitch hustled Felicia out of the room without satisfying her curiosity. An unidentified person in gloves came and fiddled with the lock.

MJ put her arm about Mary. Lisa and Jamie arrived. Felicia has misplaced Cass. Mitch told her not to worry.

The gloved one ripped open pillows and emptied drawers until he found the envelope of photographs. He looked at Felicia's surprise and then, having put the photos inside, made off with the entire strongbox.

Victoria conceded to Peter that perhaps she had come across an innocent tie-tying. Or perhaps she had interrupted too soon. Michael came down. Jane arrived. Michael summoned John. Donna came down the stairs. John imagined her in a different dress with a different hairstyle and he threw away his cane and carried her up to bed. Victoria stopped him as the gang made to leave and told him he wasn't fooling anyone. Michael asked what was going on. John took Jane out. Donna made Michael leave.

Dawn cried a lot. Chad comforted her. She missed him. He asked her to stay in Bay City for a while. Scott called. He offered to attend the funeral with her. She said she'd think about it.

Jamie was beeped. Peter offered to introduce Peggy to the mayor. She demanded that the governor be thrown in. The Hudson party arrived. Jane was thrilled to meet Felicia. She's a fan. Donna looked at John funny when he took Jane to dance. She told Michael she wanted to leave right after John's speech. Cass arrived, finally. Felicia signalled Wallingford. Let the games begin. She led Cass to the podium. John stopped in a crowd of vets, the sergeant and a blind one, among others. Felicia made a brief introductory speech and put Cass on. He quoted from her writing. ("I hope I leave the world a happier place than I found it. We do not value a tree for the number of its rings but for the shade and beauty it brings. Please remember me, not for the number of years I was among you, but for the music of my spirit.") Felicia introduced John. He began reading from a piece of paper but stumbled and stopped. Sergeant Freeling bullied him into going on. John shaped up and was remarkably eloquent and it was so bogus and not my thing at all. (Instant oratory is bogus, I mean. The sentiment was fine, I do not disparage that, although there was something chillingly American about it.) John got a standing ovation. Freeling hugged him. There were tears in quite a few eyes. Jamie had to leave to see about a patient. Michael danced with Donna. John told Jane she was a good sport. She hears that a lot. Vince looked at Mary. Diane noticed. Scott asked Mary to dance. MJ watched Adam dance with Judy (whom he was holding a considerable distance away from him, but MJ was still unhappy). Cass offered to dance with her to cheer her up. He kissed her in a friendly fashion. Michael went to call the car. Rachel told Mac Amanda was obsessed with Brava. She seems to be slurring her words somewhat. She does not like the idea of her being out of sight in layout. Felicia told Wally to keep Mitch occupied while she went to search for her surprise.

Felicia went down, found the door open, and took in the destruction. She did not go in, but rushed in the opposite direction.

Vince told Mary they had to talk, but before he could say what about, Diane began looking impatient so he returned to her. Adam found himself snaffling drinks from the tray from which MJ had just lifted hers and they gazed at each other over a waiter. She said she hoped he wasn't too busy down at the precinct, and he said he hadn't realised how much she had done (rolling the eyes chez Cannell). She said Judy seemed like a nice girl, and he said he pretty much had her on loan from Brava for the evening and it wasn't serious. (I should hope not. He was engaged to us not that long ago.) MJ walked away. Adam stared bleakly. Victoria made pointed remarks about Jane to Donna. The child is too cryptic for her own good. Donna made cryptic remarks in turn to John. Peter fired Victoria's suspicions by pointing out Donna had mentioned exciting plans and had arranged to meet John. Coincidence? He thinks NOT. He offered to ditch Peggy and come with her. She told him to meet her at home.

Clara found Donna, who had clearly expected John, on the terrace.

Victoria's car was blocked by Jamie's car which had stalled.

Mitch asked Wally where Felicia had got to. Wally assured him she'd turn up in a few minutes. Mary watched Vince and Diane dance; MJ watched Adam and Judy, whose bodies are now touching down one side, and Adam is smiling. Michael steered her away. Peggy thinks Peter's up to something. Cass feels like celebrating. (HE IS WEARING A BOW TIE WITH WHITE DOTS. Only fancy.) He's glad to be back in Bay City.
