Sara ran into Chad and tried to get him to tell her his troubles. He told her he didn't want her help. She told him she hated his attitude.
Wally called Lisa to the phone. Adam asked Lisa if she knew anyone from Rockford capable of being Gollum. She paled. Jamie was concerned. She became agitated but was unable to help. Adam said she didn't have to come to the office. He advised her to stay with Jamie. Felicia and Wally fussed over her. She agreed to go for a drive with Jamie but wouldn't let Felicia break her date with Gollum over her. Felicia phoned Gollum anyway. He pled for at least a drink and reminded her of his swell surprise. He was so eager and persistent she gave in.
Gollum brooded about taking care of Jamie.
The police got upset because Grunwald's answering service was refusing to help. MJ offered to go see about the court order. Adam and Cap'n Delaney tried to puzzle out the doodles without her. Cap'n Delaney was nice to Adam.
Chad told Sara to leave him alone. Sara told him if Adam found out about him and MJ he'd go nuts. Chad shrugged. Sara said she wanted to be his friend. He conceded that he and MJ had been close, but said she couldn't stand the sight of him now. Sara very unsubtly HINTED that she [Sara] could stand the sight of him. He told her to cool it.
Lisa sent Felicia off to have a good time. Gollum phoned Jamie, coughing like crazy and pretending to be his boss. He said he had to take his place in 30 minutes.
Sara refused to listen to reason. Chad tried to convince her that she deserved better. Felicia appeared on her way out and reminded Sara she was late. Then she ran into Mitch, who got upset to see she had no bodyguard any more. It's foggy. He asked her to be careful. She assured him she could take care of herself.
Lisa assured Jamie that he'd have a ball delivering Mrs. Crabtree's baby. She said they could talk later. He wanted to talk now. She hedged. She said she was grateful to him, and admired him, and respected him, and LIKED him. He made her nervous. He said he didn't know who had worse timing, her or Mrs. Crabtree. He insisted on her coming in the elevator with him. Mitch showed photographs to Mac, had one approved, and fled. Mac asked if Mitch made Rachel uncomfortable. She said Mac's watching to see if she were uncomfortable made her uncomfortable. Mac said he approved of Mitch's being in love with Felicia.
Adam saw in the doodles tic-tac-toe, and hangman [a game no one can play successfully on his own; Gollum must play with Mother] and "it looks like a piece of fruit. And this looks like a piece of rope." [I can't imagine saying anything looked like a piece of fruit, or a piece of rope, for that matter. I'm assuming it was just a crude pencil sketch, of course, so I would have called it an apple and a squiggle.] Cap'n Delaney was no help. MJ and a recalcitrant woman came in. Ms Davies gave her reasons for refusing to divulge Grunwald's number. Unethical. Adam told her she could go to jail for disobeying a court order. He and MJ told her how horrible the serial killer was and how nice life would be without him. Ms Davies said he [the killer] didn't scare her and told Adam to go ahead and lock her up.
Jamie and Lisa carried on in the elevator. Jamie told her she'd been a part of his life even before he'd met her. Said Jamie: "I loved you the minute I saw you. I loved you when you paid more attention to my cousin than you did to me. I just plain love you. And I always will." [somehow, Jamie fails to thrill. The way he said "when you smacked me" with such relish, I did wonder.] Kissing. They plan to tell everyone as soon as Jamie got back from work.[Decidedly, Jamie fails to thrill.] Lisa went back up. Killer music. Jamie was struck down, having recognized Gollum.
Cap'n Delaney yelled at Ms Davies. Adam informed him that MJ wanted to see him in the hall. Cap'n Delaney and MJ took the hint. Adam spoke to Ms Davies very reasonably and suggested they talk over dinner. [Adam? What? I don't know where to look. This is the first time I've seen them have a man flutter his lashes to get his way. Alarming, but probably about as non-sexist as they're ever going to get.] He sort of banished his engagement to MJ by the simple expedient of denying he was attached. Ms Davies was bowled over. Adam droned on about fate and things. He promised no one would ever know if she did anything unethical. He wheedled.
Mitch followed Felicia to pier 18. Gollum wasn't there. Mitch said he'd stood her up. Felicia became defensive. She said she was sure he had a good reason. Mitch insisted he'd wait with her.
Adam ordered up a swat team. MJ frowned and said 578 Parklane Dr. was an address familiar to her.[he had told her to saddle up.] Cap'n Delaney showed him the doodle was of a snake and an apple. MJ said, "oh, no, it's GLASER." and explained about the paperweight and his office address.
Rachel tried to pick a fight with Mac. He refused to take the bait. She asked how he was going to replace Linus Bostwick, his former art critic. She suggested herself. Lisa misted and flamed all over the place and Wally set Chad to escort Lisa to Felicia's room. Gollum rushed up and said Jamie was with Felicia at the hospital and she was to come with him because there'd been an accident.
MJ and Adam kicked themselves. Adam said darkly it was between him and Gollum.
Mitch badmouthed Gollum. Felicia told him about the engagement ring and said she had been going to refuse Dr Glaser's proposal. She stomped off. Mitch went after her.
Gollum worried Lisa with the story of Felicia's mugging. They got into his car. Mac and Rachel came down to the car park and found Jamie's apparently lifeless body.
