ANOTHER WORLD DAILY SYNOPSIS.

December 5, 1984

Kevin and Aunt Liz eagerly anticipated the wanderers' return to the fold. When Catlin & Sally arrived at the Matthews house they were greeted with hugs and cookies and general rapture. Aunt Liz said she understood that Majorca was very romantic and asked to be told all about it. She was appeased by very general statements about Majorca being wonderful. Catlin and Sally left eventually.

Mark has been installed in a downstairs bedroom at the Matthews' and equipped with a wheelchair. Aunt Liz has been instructed not to cater to his every whim.

Carl has returned Rachel's sculptures in deference to Mac's terms. Rachel was pleased but she flipped her lid when Nancy suggested that maybe Carl isn't such an ogre after all. Nancy has yet to return her glorious riding habit. She says she's not sure how Perry will take it "but if there's one thing about Perry, he's understanding."

Sally and Catlin are making the rounds. They's visiting Larry and MJ down at the station. Let the joyous news be spread: Catlin is exonerated. (And no nasty legal hassles, either. Emily did it, you didn't, get lost, we're sorry, we love you.) Completely. He of no home shall stay with Larry and Clarice. (And Cory and Jeanne, natch.) Clarice wafted in with a still-braced neck. She demanded (and got) a hug from Catlin.

Donna says that Carl is becoming quite a stableboy. (To the day of my death the word stableboy will have SUCH connotations. And when I see Donna's stable my eyes invariably are glued to the "no smoking" sign on the wall. Irrelevant but it stands out. Next to that those ever-present bales of hay off of which Donna was gnocked.) Mac came to the stables to see Carl. Donna was dispatched. After a vague discussion I think Mac turned the horse's papers over to Carl.

UNFORTUNATELY this is by way of being the extent of my knowledge. I botched it again. I know no further.

I think ogre is the wrong word for Carl. Ogres are rather broader, and balder, and more toothless. They're also not insane. They hulk, Jessica. Vegetably stupid, they tend to be.

For my own amusement: the meanings of names. Clarice -- from Clara - bright, illustrious; Nancy -- dim. of Ann - grace; Grant -- from a Norman Fr. surname; Alice -- truth; Carter -- (nothing given); Liz -- dim. of Elizabeth - consecrated to god; Felicia -- happy; Ada -- joyful, flourishing; Cecile -- fem. of Cecil - from the name of a Roman clan - blind; Cory -- that's just from Mac's surname; Catlin -- I've only heard it as a surname - in fact there's a whole entire soap called "The Catlins"; Lily -- lily; Maisie -- dim. of Margaret - pearl; Peter -- rock; Thomasina -- fem. of Thomas - twin; Carl -- English form of the German form of Charles - manly; Sally -- dim. of Sarah - princess; Alexander -- defender of men; Amanda -- lovable; Michael (MJ) -- who is like God?; Jeanne -- fem. of John - God is good; Blaine -- (nowhere in sight. What possessed that difficult Ewing woman? Honestly. 2/3 weird names is a bit much); Emily - fem. of Emil; Perry -- of the pear tree (isn't that lovely?); Quinn -- (unlisted); Matthew -- gift of God; Larry -- dim. of Laurence - laureled, hence prophetic or poetic (nice, that); Sandy -- dim, of Alexander - defender of men; Kevin -- handsome birth; Maggie -- dim. of Margaret - pearl; Cass -- (nothing given) but as a special treat: CADWALLADER. 's Welsh. Means battle arranger. (Oh, wow. I'm overwhelmed. Overcome. Overjoyed.); Benjamin -- son of the right hand, hence, favourite son; Patrick -- patrician, aristocratic; Brian -- strong; Donna -- lady; Mark -- English form of Marcus - of Mars; Mackenzie -- son of Kenzie, I guess; Marley -- (you've got me there); Rachel -- ewe or lamb; Jamie -- dim. of James, the English form of the Spanish Jaime, a variant of Jacob - he who seizes by the heel, hence successor; Kathleen -- Irish form of Catherine - purity; Vince -- dim. of Vincent - conqueror; Joyce -- joyful; Tony -- dim. of Anthony - inestimable; Rocco -- (Darn, It's not listed.); Spike -- (not given but I can guess: from the common noun); Cheryl -- meaning and origin uncertain; Phil -- dim. of Philip - lover of horses.
