On May 27, 1978, Richard and Frances were riding through the Lake district. On a path between Ullswater and Thirlmere, they decided to get married. For many months, they had been wearing matching silver bracelets. Now they took off those bracelets, linked them together and placed them amongst the rocks of a little stream. With a few sheep as witnesses, they promised to love each other for as long as they remembered these linked bracelets.

The next day, Richard had to go into a local town to get a new bicycle tire. He also bought a couple of new silver bracelets. Richard and Frances have been wearing silver bracelets like those ever since.
