Jamil explores and implements innovations and techniques that are economic, easily maintained, and useful. Some of the technologies he has worked with include sand-bag houses, solar concentrating systems, interseasonal thermal storage, air heaters, and decentralized sewage systems.
Jamil has written popular magazine articles and delivered technology based courses to disseminate his experiences with new technologies. These range from post graduate classes at the Centre for Alternative Technology for the University of East London on Stirling heat engines, to hands-on instruction in topics like biodiesel, Wirtz pumps, and greenhouse construction, in places including Calgary, Tajikistan and Mali.
