June 22: Travel to Eastend

We rallied the troops, and packed up the SUV for our 4-hour trip to Eastend. Of course, we added birding stops along the way. Once again, we saw many good birds, including American White Pelicans, Western and Eared Grebes, Western Kingbirds, Lark Buntings, Marbled Godwits, American Avocets, Willets, Upland Sandpipers, Franklin’s Gulls, Grasshopper Sparrows and many hawks.

At Chaplin Lake we met other birders – guess who, Pete and Sue Read from London Ontario, well known OFO guides. While chatting with Pete, we heard Baird’s a Sparrow and a Chestnut-collared Longspur and got a glimpse of the latter.

Finally, we got to our Air B&B on the main drag in Eastend and got settled in. Grant was upstairs, while the rest of us were in the 2 bedrooms on the main floor. We cooked some supper and excitedly planned for our next day’s adventure.
