Huron Fringe Birding Festival 2023

May 28 am - Grasslands, Woodlands & Wetlands with Mike Kent

It was nice to bird with Mike Kent again. He had substituted for Justin Peter last year.

We spent most of the morning on J & I Sideroad looking for grassland birds. We got Indigo Bunting, Gray Catbird, Willow Flycatcher, Sandhill Crane, lots of Bobolinks, Eastern Meadowlark, Tree Swallow, Red-winged Blackbird, Savannah Sparrow, Cooper’s Hawk and Red-tailed Hawk. There was also a distant Bald Eagle nest with two birds showing.

In the wetland area, we had a Great Blue Heron, Painted Turtle, and Green Frog.

Before wrapping it up, we went to the Bruce-Saugeen Townline Road where we found a Rose-breasted Grosbeak, a few American Redstarts, another Sandhill Crane and a special treat, a Yellow-throated Vireo.

Thank you for a great morning, Mike!
