SANKEY OF COOLMORE.
The late MATTHEW VILLIERS ELRINGTON SANKEY, of Coolmore, co. Tipperary, late Lieut. 5th Dragoon Guards, and Lieut. P.W.O. Regt., b. 1 April, 1846; s. his father 1881, and d. unm. 26 Oct. 1907.
Lineage.
HIEROM SANKEY, aged 25 in 1646 (son of Richard Sankey, of Endsworth,
Salop, by Anne his wife dau. of Hilary Smolt, of Burford Castle, Dorset, and grandson
of Peter Sankey, of Cotton, Salop, who was younger son of Thomas Sankey, of
Sankey, co. Lancaster temp. Queen ELIZABETH), was Major Commanding the Regt. of Horse
of Chester, afterwards Col. of Horse and Comm. of a brigade in Ireland. He became M.P.
successively for cos. Cork, Waterford and Tipperary, and also for the borough of Woodstock. He
d.s.p. and intestate. Administration was granted 4 Feb. 1687, to his nephew, RICHARD
SANKEY, Col. in the Army of WILLIAM III (son of Robert Sankey, of Hodnet,
Salop), m.
Mary, dau. of William Taylor, of Ballynort, co. Limerick, and dying 1693, left a son,
JACOB SANKEY, of St. Johnstown, co. Tipperary, m. Abigail dau. of
Matthew Jacob, M.P., of Johnstown, and was father of

surviving issue, two daus. He m. 2ndly, 1890, Henrietta (5, West Halkin Street, S.W.), dau. of the
late Pierse Creagh, of O'Brien's Castle, co. Clare, and widow of E. Browne, of Cooloe, co.
Galway. He d. 10 Nov. 1908.
