Tom Taylor, well known to the Tara audience
for his many performances with the Tara Players, is directing again
this year. Tom directed what was possibly the most successful play that Tara ever produced, "Freedom of the City. Here's what he has to say about his current production:
On February 21, the curtain will rise on the Tara Players production of Philadelphia, Here I Come by the famed playwritght, Brian Friel. Tara audiences will remember the company's performances of other Friel plays including Freedom of the City, The Loves of Cass Mcguire, and Translations. Someone once said of the Irish, "Watch out when they use humour because that's when they are most serious." In Philadelphia, Friel takes us behind the scenes on the eve of a young man's pending departure from a small Donegal village. He is away to seek a new live in the United States. Friel presents to us both the public and private versions of the central character, 25 year old Gar O'Donnel. Friel's wit and humour explores the youth's dreams, hopes and fears in the last few hours before he sets out on his great adventure. Sometimes raucous, often poignant, Philadelphia, Here I Come rekindles those moments in all our lives when private thoughts often belie outward appearances. Philadelphia's very talented cast and crew bring that same high level of artistry that Tara audiences have come to expect and enjoy from an evening of theatre at St Patrick's Hall Director |
