Puppies, just like most babies, have very small stomachs. Because of that, they can only eat a little bit at a time. Since they are growing at a very fast rate, they need lot's of nutrition and so have to eat several small meals instead of one big one. Even children up to about age 8 have three meals but

When dogs get older, they can manage with one big meal a day. People, on the other hand, still like to eat three meals a day.
