The Earth is a planet. Around the Sun, there are nine planets. Starting from closest to the Sun the planets are:

Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto

Some of the planets are like the Earth, made of rock and dust. Others are more like the Sun and are just huge balls of gas. Here is a diagram showing what the Earth is made of.
