Jelly fish belong to the COELENTERATES phylum, a colourful group of animals that live in the water. The word COELENTERATES describes nicely why jelly fish don't have bones. The word comes from Latin, actually two words, COEL meaning hollow, and ENTERON, meaning intestine, referring to its characteristic central cavity. So, COELENTERATES means hollow centre. Jelly fish as their name says are jelly, 99 % water, no blood, no brains. In fact on the beach, in the hot sun they will slowly dissolve. Also their method of movement and life floating in the sea does not require a skeleton support structure.
