This is a good question. At first we were going to wait until July 1, Canada Day, to answer it, but a young scientist in room 3 wanted to give an answer sooner. Here is T.'s answer to you.
One of the early explorers Jacques Cartier came to Canada and met the Indians. The Indians said the word Kanada and pointed to their village. Jacques Cartier mistook what they said and thought they meant nation or country, but they really meant the village. I know this information because it was on the channel CJOH as a part of our history.
