The
best thing about living in the borough of Outremont is its proximity to
the mountain. On the weekends we like to take our dog for walks on the
wooded hillside. To get there we have to meander our way through the
castles and manors of some of Montreal's most wealthy. While I love the
turrets, stain glass windows and stone masonry of these expansive
heritage homes I will always be a tourist walking among them.
Its
fine to look, as long as I dont stick around for too long.
According to the points of the compass, the map of my neighbourhood which I carry in my head is hopelessly askew. For an inhabitant of Outremont the mountain lies to the south-west, but I cant possibly imagine it any direction but north. I blame this on the orientation of my former dwelling places. In Ottawa the Gatineau Hills can be seen on the horizon in the north. In Toronto the whole city slopes northward with the lake in the south. Click on the numbers to visit
