Hi and welcome! We know that the Nigerian scammers have finally found this page and are looking for victims here. Please be advised that the advertisers on this website are pretty savvy and very aware of scams involving classified ads, so don't bother trying to pawn off your phony "Cashier's Checks" and "Money Orders" here. Thank you.
If you haven't seen the latest scams and what they look like, have a look at the Baroness's write up at www.barnstormers.com/uploads/banners/fraud.html - a good treatise on the subject! If in doubt about responses you receive ask the webmaster!!

We have over $30,000 tied up in the Colt, but will listen to all offers.
Our Colt is for sale. The O-235 engine and propeller were removed in 1997. A few years later Russell Airport was closed. At that time the wings were removed so we could transport it to my partner's home in Cumberland, Ontario. We purchased an overhauled, zero timed O-320-B2B 160 hp engine to replace its original 108 hp. The engine is for sale separately or with the Colt. We don’t have a prop.
Ours is a 1961 Piper Colt shown here at the former Russell Airport (CPH4), Ontario, Canada.
The Piper Colt is a two seat, side-by-side seating, light aircraft that was produced by the Piper Aircraft from 1960 to 1963. It is one of the series of "short wing" Pipers produced from 1948 to 1963. The "short wing" series includes the Vagabond PA-15 and PA-17, the Clipper PA-16, the Pacer PA-20, the Tri-Pacer PA-22-125 to 160 and finally the Colt PA-22-108. The Colt shares a similar appearance to the Tri-Pacer, but has a smaller engine and 2 fewer seats. It also lacks flaps. For details on the Short Wing Aircraft check at the Short Wing Piper Club's website.
Colts are certified under the FAA Type Data Certificate 1A6 which applies to all PA-22 Tri-Pacers and Colts.
Colts are powered by a Lycoming O-235 engine producing 108 Horsepower, but they can be converted, via a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC), up to a 160 HP Lycoming O-320-B2B engine like the later Tri-Pacers have.
When compared with other side-by-side two seater aircraft the Colt carries a large load over a greater distance. For example, likely the most popular trainer, the Cessna 150, has a useful load of about 370 lbs with full 22.5 US gallons of fuel. Most Colts will carry more than 400 lbs with full 36 gallons of fuel. Both aircraft burn just over 6 Gallons per hour giving the Colt an advantage both in range and load carrying. As well the Colt will carry 100 lbs of baggage compared to the Cessna's 50 lbs or so in the baggage area.
All Short Wing Pipers are rag and tube construction, they have a steel tubing structure covered with fabric, originally cotton or linen, but today dacron. This type of construction is light, strong and easily repaired in the field. Unfortunately the tube structure is often outlived by modern man made dacron fabric coverings. This necessitates removing the fabric occasionally to ensure the steel structure has not suffered significant corrosion.
