Rockcliffe Canada Day Fly-in

COPA Flight 8 Webmaster Adam Hunt was at the edition of the Rockcliffe Flying Club's annual Canada Day event. As in past years the fly-in only attracted about half a dozen aircraft, despite the nice weather, although hundreds of people drove in for breakfast.

Maurice Prudhomme's Ottawa River Fly-in

COPA Flight 8's photographers, Michael Dixon and Nathalie Huard, were at Maurice Prudhomme's Ottawa River Fly-in, despite the warm weather. Michael reported:

Mo pulled his 25th fly-in off with a splash!! Actually, the runway was in good shape considering the previous day's weather. Mo had entertainment, his famous chili, a cake for the 25th and, as usual, many friendly pilots and friends. Nathalie preserved the day’s events with a variety of pictures for us to enjoy.

Reno Air Races

-

COPA Flight 8's Michael Dixon and Nathalie Huard went to the Reno Air Races in , where Nathalie took some great photographs.

About the event Michael wrote:

I thought the Ottawa crowd might enjoy some of Nathalie’s best shots of the 50th anniversary Reno Air races. Young Steve Hinton held the trophy once again in the unlimited class. These folks sure know how to hold a great event. Worth the long trip getting there.

Carleton Place Fly-in

COPA Flight 8 webmaster Adam Hunt attended the 2013 Carleton Place Fly-in, organized by COPA Flight 121. He noted:

The fly-in was moved to its rain date of Sunday 08 September 2013 and that, along with the cool temperatures and the high and gusty winds probably kept attendance down to about a dozen aircraft in addition to the locally-based ones. A number of pilots and spouses did drive in, though; the sun shone and the food was exceptional! It was great to catch up with the old friends that I saw there.

Ile Patry Fly-in

Michael Dixon and Nathalie Huard, COPA Flight 8 photography team, also flew up to the Ile Patry Fly-in on . About the event they said:

Again the weather cooperated for Burnie’s 4th Annual Fly-in up the Gatineau River near Bouchette, Quebec. Two R44s, a V-bee, P12, Kitfox, Cessna 185, 172, Piper Cubs and many others were present to enjoy the camaraderie and Diane’s good burgers! The owners, Denise and Michel Patry, had the place all groomed for the event. Although this is a float fly-in all are welcome to drive up next year.

Edenvale Fly-in

COPA Flight 8's photographers, Michael Dixon and Nathalie Huard, flew up to Edenvale, Ontario for the fly-in held there in early August. They reported:

The Edenvale Classic Fly-in was held on Saturday August 10th. Amazingly enough we did not meet any people we knew in the huge crowd present. This is a must for anyone that enjoys small GA aircraft. It is a wonderful two hour flight from Ottawa, great hospitality, well organized and best of all a wide variety of aircraft and classic cars to admire. We planned the return trip around part of Georgian Bay, the Muskokas and Halliburton country to complete our scenic tour.

Mike and Gail Shaw in Alaska

-

by Mike Shaw

Michael and Ann-Louise Masek, and Gail and I celebrated the Masek's 35th Wedding Anniversary on a cruise to Alaska. We visited an uncle on Salt Spring Island for a couple of days before joining the Maseks in Vancouver.

Aside from snorkelling in Ketchikan, three places stood out, Lake Hood and Glacier Bay in Alaska and the Boeing factory in Everett Washington. We had great weather in Anchorage and were surprised by all the flowers there.

Lake Hood at Anchorage International Airport is the sea plane Mecca of the world. Not an inch of shore without an aircraft! We explored the Alaska Aviation Museum at Lake Hood.

Finally, Everett Washington's Future of Flight Boeing factory tour was pretty interesting, even if one cannot take a camera, cell phone, Leatherman, flashlight, or anything else useful on the tour.

Note: Some of you may know Masek by his Eye On the Sky articles in Canadian Aviator magazine. Shaw is Captain of COPA Flight 8.
