To the visitor, the numerous types of police can be somewhat confusing. There are the famous Carabinieri, of course, but there are also the Municipal Police, Polizia Provinciale, Polizia Penitenzaria, Polizia di Stato, Guardia di Finanza, and the Corpo Forestale dello Stato.

We never felt unsafe in Venice. No doubt there is crime but violent crime is said to be rare.
