(above left) Customers start arriving with the first light before the fish sellers and the stall owners around the fish market have completed setting up their displays.

The fruit and vegetable market (bottom right) is next to the fish market. Here, too, work begins before dawn with all of the produce being brought to the market by boat. Everyday it must be unloaded and arranged and everyday whatever remains unsold is packed up and removed in the early afternoon.

A butcher selling horsemeat (top right) is not something we're accustomed to seeing. I missed an opportunity to try something new.

Left: I like fish, really, but I don't want my food to scare the bejeebers out of me.
