A Traghetto. These gondolas will carry you from one side of the canal to the other for a small fee if you don't feel like walking to the next bridge (bridges are few and far between on the Grand Canal).

It is usual to stand while crossing but you may sit if you wish and if there is room. In the morning and evening, it is not unusual to see a number of businessmen, in suits and carrying briefcases, standing in a group while being rowed across the canal.
