The architecture, the churches, and the galleries are what draw us to Europe again and again. The churches are usually our first planned destinations with Denise mapping out a walking route for each day - though we often find it's very difficult to stick to that plan when surrounded by so much of interest!

In Brugges, you are spoiled for choice when it comes to church architecture. With styles ranging from Romanesque to Gothic, Baroque and more modern, it's easy to become a bit overwhelmed. Pleasantly overwhelmed, but overwhelmed.

The reality is that we could have spent our entire visit exploring just two or three churches but, unfortunaetely, time constraints meant that we had to move on. Though we can't show you more than a few of the hundreds of photos we took in Brugges, we will try to give you some sense of our experience.

One of the big surprises of our visit is pictured below - A Madonna and child by Michelangelo! Apparently this is the only free-standing sculpture by Michelango to be found outside of Italy.
