0001.html (27837 bytes)      June 11, 2000     Schloss Ort, Gmunden, Austria.

Gmunden is located on the north end of Traunsee, one of a series of lakes east of Salzburg. From Gmunden, a narrow road runs part way along the lake's east shore to the town of Ramsau, where at the Gasthof Ramsau, a Ramsauer Spitz should not be passed up for those with a sweet tooth.

0002.html (36601 bytes)     June 16, 2000     Passo Giau, Italy.

Approaching from Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, this is the view to expect 1.8 kilometers before reaching the top of Passo Giau.

0003.html (33683 bytes)     June 16, 2000     Passo Giau, Italy.

Passo Giau (2233 m asl) is located on route 638, 11 kilometers down the road from Pocol, Italy. Although I've toured this area in 1997 and 1999, I wasn't fortunate enough to have the excellent weather that I encountered day after day this year. This identical photo is posted in my 1999 Tour page, but shrouded in cloud.

0004.html (45653 bytes)     June 16, 2000     Passo Giau, Italy.

A view in another direction from Passo Giau (2233 m asl).

0005.html (36125 bytes)     June 16, 2000     Passo Fedaia, Italy.

This photo was taken one kilometer past the top of Passo Fedaia while enroute to Canazei, Italy.

0006.html (49340 bytes)     June 16, 2000     Passo Sella, Italy.

The road leading out of Canazei, Italy takes you either to Passo Sella or Passo Pordoi depending on which fork in the road you take. Turning left takes you up to Passo Sella. This photo was taken between the split in the road and Passo Sella.

0007.html (43321 bytes)     June 16, 2000     Passo Gardena, Italy.

This photo was taken between Passo Gardena and Corvara, Italy.

0008.html (41927 bytes)     June 17, 2000     Passo Sella, Italy.

This photo was taken between Passo Sella and Passo Gardena while on a day tour to ride the Würzjoch, Jaufenpass and Penser Joch.

0009.html (44526 bytes)     June 17, 2000     Passo Gardena, Italy.

The view of Passo Gardena descending into the town of Corvara, Italy visible in the valley in the background.

0010.html (48438 bytes)     June 18, 2000     Passo di Falzarego, Italy.

Just before reaching the top of Passo di Falzarego from Arabba, the road takes one through two short tunnels. One tunnel is out of view directly behind me and the other can be seen in the right side of the photo. This tunnel, carved out of the edge of the mountain, is located in a hairpin.

0011.html (46558 bytes)     June 18, 2000     Passo Valparola, Italy.

This view of Passo di Falzarego (2117 m asl) was taken from Passo Valparola (2192 m asl). The road seen winding in the right of the photo is just up from the road in the previous photo above.

0012.html (46309 bytes)     June 19, 2000     Passo del Manghen, Italy.

Passo del Manghen (2042 m asl) was a genuine treat. This lesser know pass was well paved and narrow, the latter making it undesirable for any campers or buses. On the way up, I didn't encounter a single vehicle and it wasn't till I reached the top that I came across a car and a few motorcycles that were parked along the edge of the road.

0013.html (49631 bytes)     June 20, 2000     Passo Maniva, Italy.

This pass is one of many on the road between Bagolino, Italy and Anfo, Italy. On a tour from Bagolino, one will be crossing Goletto Gaver (1795 m asl), Goletto di Cadino (1938 m asl), Passo di Croce Domini (1892 m asl), Giogo della Bala (2129 m asl), Goletto delle Crocette (2171 m asl), Passo di Maniva (1664 m asl), Passo del Dosso Alto (1725 m asl), Passo della Berga (1527 m asl), Passo della Spina (1521 m asl) and Passo del Mare (1418 m asl) before reaching the town of Anfo on Lago d'Idro, Italy. A truly excellent ride in a mere 50 kilometers or so. The portion of the road up to Passo di Croce Domini is paved, while the remainder alternates between gravel and pavement. For those wishing to avoid gravel, one can continue from Passo di Croce Domini to the town of Breno, Italy.

0014.html (52146 bytes)    June 20, 2000     Passo Maniva, Italy.

The view from the previous photo above.

0015.html (34083 bytes)     June 21, 2000     Lago di Garda, Italy.

The road on the west side of Lago di Garda takes one through numerous tunnels carved out of the edge of the mountains. This photo, taken from between the second and third tunnels just north of the town of Gargnano shows a view towards the east side of Lago di Garda. In comparison, the road along the east side of Lago di Garda only has a few tunnels carved out of the edge of the mountains. These tunnels start just south of the town of Torbole.

0016.html (49396 bytes)     June 22, 2000     Val Genova, Carisolo, Italy.

These falls are located about half way into Val Genova from the town of Carisolo.

0017.html (39814 bytes)     June 22, 2000     Passo di Gavia, Italy.

The view just prior to reaching the top of Passo di Gavia from the south.

0018.html (34364 bytes)     June 22, 2000     Passo di Gavia, Italy.

The view just past the top of Passo Gavia approaching from the south. Although late into June, there was still snow to be found alongside the road on some of the passes.

0019.html (23087 bytes)     June 23, 2000     Julierpass, Switzerland.

The ride up the Julierpass (2284 m asl) was a cool one for a change. This was the first cloudy day since the start of my tour and the first time in a while that I had cloud below, as well as above me.
