Intelligence Issues for Congress
Regional Concerns
Despite the urgency of the counterterrorism mission, the
Intelligence Community is responsible
for supporting traditional national security concerns, including
developments in China, North
Korea, Iran, and South America. In February 2006 testimony before
the Senate Intelligence
Committee, then-DNI Negroponte provided a summary of the
Intelligence Community’s
assessments of threats, challenges, and opportunities throughout the
world. Similar reviews were
provided by DNI Negroponte on January 11, 2007, by DNI McConnell on
February 5, 2008, and
by DNI Blair on February 12, 2009. Similar briefings are provided to
the House Intelligence
Committee and other congressional committees.
