Intelligence Issues for Congress
Issues in the 111th Congress
Observers expect that oversight of the implementation of the
Intelligence Reform Act will extend
into the 111th Congress. Congress is also likely to monitor the
evolving relationship between the
DNI and the CIA Director especially in regard to humint collection
and covert operations as well
to CIA’s analytical efforts. The role of the Defense Department and
the Under Secretary of
Defense for Intelligence are also likely to be a congressional
concern. Future satellite
procurement programs are an important issue given the multi-billion
dollar costs involved, though
many of the details remain classified.
