4. Thomas Poole

Family legend has it that by the age of twelve he was working as a coal miner. He had left home for a period of time. Upon his return he discovered that his mother had sold his bed! They were indeed difficult times in the North of England.

He arrived in Canada aboard the Canadian Pacific ship Montrose on October 9, 1926. His port of entry was Quebec City. The immigration registry stated that he arrived with five pounds sterling in his pocket.
