Remembering G. Eric Sears, 24th August 1990 - 12th March 2001. Eric died of neuroblastoma, the most common paediatric solid tumour, and one of the most difficult to treat. For more information on how to support research into this disease, please see the web site of the Ottawa Neuroblastoma Research Fund.
Paul's stuff
The world's supply of oil has almost certainly passed peak extraction
rate at the end of 2008. As the supply declines, things will have to change
dramatically.
Natural gas supplies in Canada have been in decline for a couple of years.
Read more about this and find some links to other sites here. To read about the "Oil Depletion Protocol", a proposal to begin to deal with the problem, click below:
Paul, along with Kevin Conlin, came up with a method for controlling algae in planted aquaria. The method is the basis of the fertiliser mixture known as "Poor Man's Dupla Drops (PMDD)". Read about it, and getting plants to grow in an aquarium here.
Java programming isn't that different from C++. Here is a simple applet.
Some of Paul's walks in the Chiltern Hills of England can be found described here.
I've been learning Mandarin Chinese for a bit over two years
now. It's a major change from European languages, but it's not as
difficult as one might think. If you're in Ottawa, Canada, and
are interested in learning, I recommend this school.
One thing I would also suggest is that you learn to read the characters
from the start. You don't want to be trying to catch up a year or
two after starting.
Meg's stuff
My wife Meg is working with others across Canada to help eliminate the use
of pesticides for cosmetic purposes. Material for the Coalition
for a Healthy Ottawa can be found here
and for the Canadian Coalition for Health and Environment here.
