We have purchased a Jasper Park Lodge "Rocky Mountain Experience" package which includes all meals, non-alcoholic beverages and numerous activities.
Our room is a "Junior Lakeview Suite" and the view is magnificent!
The view from our room
The mountain is Mt Edith Cavell, and I think the view is much better than one of Pyramid Mountain (which can apparently be seen from the regular suites.)
I took a golfing lesson from the pro. I wanted to see if I could increase the length of my drive - I doubt that will ever happen as he pointed out that I come off balance when shifting my weight from my leg to my prosthetic leg. Oh, well, I will just have to live with it.
We went to the "Moose's Nook" for Liz's birthday. The decor is somewhat like a Hy's, and a trio was playing. I'm glad the victuals are included in the package, as all restaurant at the JPL are just a tad pricey. They go out of their way in presentation, as Liz's and Joan's desserts show.
The next morning we played a round of golf. The course is set up so that there is a view of mountains as you look down the fairways. It may be that this is how all golf courses work, but I found it a bit unfair that the staff pressed golfers to keep up the pace. I realize that one has to consider other players; but, when paying the prices JPL charges, allowing other to play through should be methodology they use to pick up the pace of playing. Fortunately, the people behind us were walking the course and we were never pressed from behind. I think we only lost eight balls - a course record for me.
I believe I probably hold the JPL course record high score - it must be up near 400(I gave up counting)!
That evening Joan and I dressed for dinner and went to the Edith Cavell Room to put on the old nosebag. Even gladder we are on the package we are on. Liz ordered supper from room service. When we got back she was dead asleep.
Liz and I rented kayaks in the morning and went white-water rafting in the afternoon. Somehow Liz managed to avoid getting wet. Oddly, Joan wasn't interested in either activity.
I must say we have had absolutely excellent weather for our stay - the temps have been in the high 20's-low 30's. Sunny, except for 25 July when it rained a bit.
We took a guided tour of Maligne Canyon and Mount Edith Cavell
Cavell Picts
(I mis-labeled the picture of us in front of Cavell Lake - that should read Cavell Pond)
All was going swimmingly until somebody in Capreol, Ontario decided to put a rail on the tracks - we ended with at 10 hour delay.
So, we rented a car and went to some places we missed while staying in the JPL....
Picts from The Whistler's (we took the Sky Tram up the mountain - there is a trail that takes about 3.5 hours for a
good hiker. I suspect it would take Liz and I 2 days...We did take on Old Fort Point though.)
Picts from Old Fort Point - I climbed it many times when we lived in Jasper - I must have had a lot of energy then...

nd two suit bags that didn't get loaded in the car. After some searching, the staff found that the person who loaded
our car realized that they hadn't loaded them and sent them to the Via station where we ultimately found them...
The train finally arrived at about one thirty in the morning...
