    33. Marie ST-GERMAIN dit GAUSSIN/GAUCIN was also known as Marie-Anne. She was born on 14 Aug and baptized 15 Aug 1779 in St-Michel, Yamaska.  (10)

    Children were:

16 iv. Joseph LÉVEILLÉE was born 19 and baptized 20 March 1813 in St-Michel d'Yamaska, Québec. Godparents were Jean-Baptiste BROUILLARD and Geneviève DANIS. (9) He first married Marie BROUILLARD (Félix BROUILLARD & Marie Louise ALEXANDRE) on 18 Oct 1831 in St-Michel d'Yamaska, Québec. Joseph married twice more: his second marriage to Émilie AUTOT (AUTOTTE) on 13 April 1874; his third marriage to Luce CARTIER on 12 April 1866. (1) He died in 1902 in St-Aimé, Massueville, Richelieu County, Québec.(1)

    i. Antoine FOURQUIN-LÉVEILLÉE was born 6 October and baptized 7 October 1798 in Yamaska.(6) He married Angélique DEGUIRE-DESROSIERS (Jean-Baptiste & Thérèse FORCIER) 7 Aug 1820, in St-Michel d'Yamaska, Québec. (1)(3)(4). Antoine was one of the original 139 residents of St-Michel Parish who requested, in a document dated 24 January 1834, that a new parish be established in the Massue seigniory or domain. On 3 June 1834 the first members of the Conseil de la Corporation de St-Aimé were elected. Antoine Léveillée was one of these first members.(10) Thus began the construction of the church and the organization of the village of St-Aimé, now known as Massueville, named after its first Lord, Aimé Massue. Antoine Fourquin-Léveillé was one of the first church wardens, serving in that capacity in 1838. (5) It is probably that Antoine died before 1886 since his wife wrote her will on 25 Sept 1886, leaving all her possessions to charitable causes.. It is probable that he died on 3 November since one of the provisions of Angélique's will stipulated that a low Mass be celebrated every 3 November each year, forever.

I remember my "pépère" Joseph as a jolly, pleasant man. On New Years day, all of the males in the Léveillée family would come to my grandfather's home to be blessed by him. I remember kneeling before him and he placed his hand on my head and invoked God's blessing upon me.
He taught me how to play "cribbage". He was a champion player; yet, I always seem to win and would bring home a nickel or a dime.
He worked for Interlaken Mills, in Harris village, town of Coventry, Rhode Island. He worked as Supervisor of the Yard at Harris Mill during all his life. He was made a supervisor because he spoke English and was able to interpret for all the French-Canadians who immigrated to Harris Village from various villages in Quebec, notably Yamaska, St-Hyacinthe and St-David.

    Césarie Théroux
    Ma grande-mère
    "Mémère"

For the first five years of my life 1938-1942, I lived in the same Harris village as my grandparents. I remember my grandmother Léveillée as a very petite woman, who always wore a black dress; she wore her dark hair in a bun atop her head. On New Year's day, all her children and grandchildren came to wish her a "Bonne et heureuse année" - Happy New Year. She would reward her family with the best pork pies - tourtières - that I've ever tasted.
My grand-parents had a big, beautiful home at 11 Broad Street, two houses away from where I lived at 74 Mill Street, the village of Harris, Coventry, Rhode Island.
I related these stories on this web page for the benefit of my two grandchildren Alexia Rose Kelley (affectionately known as Pétoune) and Phillip Michael Kelley (Pitou). They love to hear about my past.

Gédéon Bélanger
Mon grand-père
"Pépère"

I remember my "pépère" Gédéon as a kind but very strict man, with a huge mustache. One of my cousins and I used to go "dump-picking" with him in Harris dump, in Coventry, Rhode Island. We would collect rags which we sold for recycling (not a concept at that time 1942-1948).
I remember going to his house to play cards with him when he was old. I used to go home with 5 cents in my pocket every time, win or lose.
He used to raise a pig and chickens in the backyard of his house, which he rented from the Interlaken Mills, in Harris village, town of Coventry, Rhode Island. He worked as a yardman at Harris Mill during all his life.

Mélina Théroux Bélanger
Ma grande-mère
"Mémère"

I was born in my grandparents' home. My grandmother served as mid-wife for most of her grandchildren. For the first five years of my life 1935-1940, I lived in the same Harris village as my grandparents, just three houses away. My father built a small trailer that hooked to my three-wheel bike. My dog Teddy would jump into the trailer and stay with me while I visited my grandmother. I remember her making a ketchup and mustard sandwich which I liked. I would always keep a small piece for my dog Teddy, which my grandmother loved.
She used to make kites for my cousins and me. When the kite broke, she would repair it cheerfully. She would also entertain us with stories of the people, mostly our relatives, in our village After the visit, I would bike back to my home, passing by the houses of several uncles and aunts (Léveillée and Bélanger). The saying "It takes a village" applied in my early life.

I related these stories on this web page for the benefit of my two grandchildren Alexia Rose Kelley and Phillip Michael Kelley . They love to hear about my past.
