- Born in London England, March 18, 1787, Benjamin STENSTON married Mary
STRAHAM (born: Rumford England, January 20, 1788)
- The entire family sailed for America on March 9, 1832. Benjamin STENSTON
kept a diary and the Minutes in Reference to My Leaving England, is a
document containing a full sized facimile of a portion of that diary. A copy of
this document is in the possession of Dorothy GOFFIN, one of the descendants of
Benjamin SHENSTON.
- The first sixty-seven pages of the diary are headed Book of
Rememerance and are made up of transcriptions of hymns, relegious poetry
and prose, a few short articles on "natural science" which the author
thought worthy of possessing. Its only interest lies in showing the deep
religious character of the author, and also emphasizing how little we today
appreciate the availability to all of books and magazines in comparison with a
century ago.
- The original volume -- the leather of the cover cracked and the paper
yellowed -- is now (1937.12.25) in the possession of Dr. Norman SHENSTONE of
Toronto Canada, who received it from his father, Thomas SHENSTONE, one of the
sons of Benjamin SHENSTON.
- A copy of this reproduction was sent (Christmas 1937) to all the known
descendants of Benjamin SHENSTON with the Christmas greetings of Thomas E
DONNELLEY and Naomi DONNELLEY, great-grandchildren of Benjamin SHENSTON.
