Results create baseline

What should a school look at to find out whether its relationships are healthy? The indicators used in this survey are listed here. Any school can use these same categories to create a picture of its climate, and compare those findings with the baseline created by this study.

for students:

for school staff:

• satisfaction with school relationships
• involvement in disruptive behaviour
• types of disruptive behaviour directed at staff and mediated by staff
• time spent on classroom discipline perceived effectiveness of discipline policies
• perceived effectiveness of behaviour intervention strategies
• perceived support for behaviour intervention strategies

for principals:

• time spent on discipline
• rates of disruptive behaviour

I believe our school is the best. I speak for myself when I say that because our discipline policy is consistent and the consequences firm. The teachers are doing an excellent job keeping the environment for our students safe and enjoyable. Overall, the atmosphere around there is always cheerful and everyone gets along very well. I enjoy the students and my co -workers.

I have had a very serious series of incidents in 1993-94. I was punched by a Grade 6 student two separate times (as well, the principal was punched by her several times). It was reported to the RCMP and health services. The child was removed from school and diagnosed I found the incident very upsetting and it changed my life, health and attitude towards school.
