About mutatis mutandis

mutatis mutandis is a Latin phrase meaning "the requisite changes having been made", which aptly captures the spirit of our productions. mutatis mutandis productions include adaptations, translations and re-envisionings of existing texts as well as original scripts that re-examine their subjects from an unusual perspective to produce new understandings.

mutatis mutandis traces its history back to the 2000 Ottawa Fringe Festival and The Wiener Company's production of Mozart Requiem, an original script by founder David Whiteley. mutatis mutandis has participated in every Ottawa Fringe Festival since and has also produced shows outside of the Fringe.

Many of the works presented by mutatis mutandis are original scripts or translations/adaptations by David Whiteley. Whiteley's scripts have also been produced by other companies, most notably his rhymed verse translations of Moliere's Tartuffe and The Misanthrope, commissioned by Third Wall Theatre, which met with critical acclaim. He is currently working on a translation of Georges Feydeau's A Flea in Her Ear for Seven Thirty Productions. It will open at The Gladstone in September.
