Joan Wood's 90th Birthday Party
The Crown Inn, Chislehurst, Kent
Attended by 40 admiring family and friends
Saturday 24 March 2007

My mother was born on 22 March 1917. The first three photos below were taken on 22 March 2007 as she opened presents. I am her firstborn, Tony Copple, and my wife Laurie-Ann and I flew from Ottawa and stayed with her for birthday week at her lovely home in Bickley. My brother Philip and his wife Maureen came from Vancouver Island. My sister Dianne was there with husband Mike and two of her children, Rick and Jay. My sister Neesa was the emcee and made the main speech. My cousin Dorothy and her husband Richard came from Silverdale, Lancashire. Mum's brother Jim and sister Mollie were there with their contributions to the family tree - a new upgrade of which was presented by Lynne, Jim and Vera's daughter. I was particularly happy to meet Mum's good friend and relative-in-law Robin Marriott for the first time.

Mum had been a little apprehensive about the party, but when she saw the welcoming faces she relaxed and enjoyed it. Dianne had spent months in planning, and everything ran smoothly, with a lot of laughter and affection. It was of course also Dianne's birthday on 22nd.

Then came the speeches: - Neesa's eulogy, then Phil's (not pictured), then Robin's, and mine. A recording was made of the speeches and the toasts, and if you really want a CD, either bug Dianne, or me. A CD of photos would accompany it.
