Castaways:
consumer trophies/ cultural clutter

Much of one's contemporary experience of culture and cultural overlays are provided for us through a continuous stream of consumer products.

Directly or inadvertently, these daily or "essential" items position and reposition attitudes, wants, biases, etc., towards ourselves and those around us.

Presented as still lifes or trophies of cultural disjuncture, these scenarios of "simple" ceramic mugs and knickknacks are intended to eclectically critique inherent sociopolitical coding and "culture clash" found amidst the obsolete ramblings and discards of everyday objects.

SAFE
The intent of SAFE is to question the parameters of personal safety within the demands of an ordered public space. SAFE provides an alternative look at "taken for granted" expectations of personal / public safety based on common notions surrounding such issues as being: freed from risk or harm; secure from threat, danger or loss; removed from controversy or contradiction.

The items and images presented in SAFE focus on commercially marketed safety aids for infants through to three year olds. These safety products are chosen for exhibition because they are experienced by a child during a significant time in human development, the time when a child is socialized into her / his cultural environment.
